Large Scale Central

Oh, goody, I'm first! Or is that "On first?"

Other than outdoor railroading, I am seriously into kayaking and canoing. So much so that I even built my own kayak, and am seriously considering building a canoe.

I also enjoy photography, including darkroom work.

I am building an 0-“scale,” 3-rail layout in the basement. I’m considering having a branch of the 3-rail empire coursing through the garden.

Prior to marrying my lovely bride, I did a lot of backpacking. I’m not sure whether it was the marriage or “mature wisdom” that put a stop to that activity.

Downhill skiing during the winter! Ski scared!

I shoot.

This sounds good Steve! Lots of outdoor activities, I envy you a bit as most of my hobbies are rather stationary or indoor type… with the notable exception of live steam of course!! Best wishes from Tokyo, Zubi

Kayaking and canoing are so much easier on the knees than is backpacking.

Hey Steve,

Chris and I are getting into Kayaking this spring. There is a kayaking & canoe club in Coeur d’Alene we are joining. I’ve seen your kayak hanging on the wall of the shop. Do you have plans you can share? I’d love to build my own. In fact I have a new machine being delivered in the next 30 days that might help make some of the parts. Its a CNC Router with a 5’x 10’ table.

See ya soon
Chuck

Don’t know if I still have the plans or not. I found the instruction book the other day.

Mine is a Chesapeake 18. It has a generous cockpit, with lots of storage and buoyancy. Guys like you and I need that extra buoyancy.

I use to do some backpacking in my long ago youth. Never had the time and money to do it as much as I wanted to, though. But I managed to have a few good adventures. The biggest was when my brother and I decided to backpack home from Mt. Lassen to San Diego with virtually no money. (It’s a very long story involving art, bears and hitchhiking.)

And to think I thoguht the hobby of Garden Railroading was alot of work.
I’m ready for a nap after just reading all the things you guys use to and still do.

My next hobby is going to be working on nothing.
