Large Scale Central

Of proven limited interest here,

but I’m about finished up having converted two Newqida passenger cars from dull-as-ditchwater-fictitious-railroad into reasonable facsimiles of the two ex-MaV passenger cars on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway over in mid-Wales.

I’ve sent a few pix to some members of this forum, and I’ll be sending the finished article I’ve written to both Garden Railway magazines.

Just thort you’d like to know.

I’ll look for the article Tac

…winking…

Your assumption that ALL won’t care because some Amurikans are ‘provincial’ bothers me. Good modeling is just that, and can be learned from, even if the subject matter isn’t my cup of tea…

Thread title “Of proven limited interest here,” is okay by me.

Pretty much anything here would qualify to some degree, and likely more things than not.
Things such as electric traction, The Nancy Hanks, the NYO&W, functional signaling, live steam wrecker cranes, upholstering coach seats with real leather, scratchbuilding, sound systems, radio control, you get the idea.

It is likely, however, that couplers would count as being of unanimous interest.

Tac looking forward to the article. Even though I dont model RR from over seas I still enjoy seeing what people model as well as seeing the Railroads for all over the world. Thats why I also post on G scale central as well. There are some great looking RR all over.

Well, folks, this is a bit of a mux-ip railway we are talking about. The type of cars that I am modelling real cars were built in Bohemia [now the Czech Republic] around 1902, for use in cross-border narrow-gauge operation between Bohemia and Hungary. About ten years ago, two more modern versions were donated to the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway - fortuitously the same gauge [760mm/2ft 6in] where they are enjoying their second life.

My versions are not precisely the same as those now running in Wales - THEY are older and more picturesque versions of those comparatively modern design cars.

The LGB cars, no longer made, I’m told, cost around £200 each here in UK. The Newqida cars cost £35. Even replacing the wheels with good quality version from Liliput, and doing all the work, I’m still well ahead of the curve by making my own.

The plus side is that mine will be unique, unless, of course, somebody else makes an identical pair.

Look forward to the pics Terry, not my ‘thing’ really but interesting all the same.A friend of the family down in Clacton has a 32mm gauge line in his garden using converted Mamod power. He has just converted three Newquida coaches to 32mm gauge and very good they look too.
Regards
David

Thing is, David, I already have all the available W&L rolling stock and an ‘Earl’ to haul them, but like the idea of having a couple of cars that nobody else has.

My main interest, as ever, is in US/Can NG in Fn3 and and ‘full-size’ in gauge 1. This British stuff is a bit of a ‘side-line’, but is, more to the point, easily accessible since we actually live here much of the time.

If you want pics, please e-mail me - I can’t post to this or any other forum from my HD.

Wow, nice work, those seats especially!

Thanks for the plaudit, Jerry, much appreciated! Those seats took 316 pieces of wood…it’s amazing the way that 12 meters of stripwood can disappear… I’m about halfway though the second car now, having made up the washroom and done one out of the four sets of seats. a lot of the extra detail on the body and underframe has also been done. Thankfully, there were only two of them.

And just in case I’m giving the impression that I only mess about with Yoorupean stuff, this is the first and only time I’ve ever done any work on a Yooro model of any kind. My main modelling is done on Fn3, but with so many REAL experts around like Kevin Strong, Jon Radder and Rod Hayward I’m not going to show my inadequacies for yez all to take the micky.

I’ll have to second Jerry on those seats. Great job Tac

That’s much better than I can do.
Great job.

Thanks, but I certainly would not consider myself an expert. Student yes, expert no.

Your coaches look great. I hope your article gets accepted so we can read all about how you dun it.

Very nice work! Those seats are terrific.

Thanks, Ray - I apologise for leaving your name off the maven list, BTW. I’m only grateful that the seats weren’t like those on a train we rode in hungary about five years back - woven cane… I’d have cut my throat by now.

Cool! It really changes the look of that car. Woven cane is easy. Use cloth first aid tape. First paint it black, then dry-brush tan to highlight the texture.

So now those Hungarian coaches are on the “to do” list, right??? (and thanks for the compliment.) Later, K

Now you see why I don’t care to post my pathetic efforts…sigh.

Wondrous job there, Kevin.
