One of my favorite photographers has always been O. Winston Link and I did a quick test of some lighting on my RR one evening and I got decent results:
I need some assistants to hold some lights and maybe I can do even better next time.

I have one of Link’s photo books here right next to the computer. You just need some NW steam and you’ll have it!
You might try lighting from down low so you don’t get the shadows in the shot. It will also show up the running gear.

I like it, though. It’s a great start.

The web site of the OWL Gallery, housed in the former passenger depot - of Raymond Loewy fame - at Roanoke VA, is always a pleasure to view. There have been some wonderful photographers of the steam railroading era in the United States and O. Winston Link was one of the greatest in my view.

Hotshot Eastbound This is one of my all time favorite photos. It ranks with any that Ansal Adams has made. The gouge on this photo is that there are 5 modes of transportation evident. I can only see the three most obvious. Does anyone have sharper eyes than I?
NICE^^^^
I forgot about that …
Plane, train, automobile, walking, ? Can’t remember the last one
That is probably the most recognizable of all Link photos. Looking for a horse, but don’t see one.
Bicycle, but I dont remember where it is…
I had to go look at my print I have of this. The bicycle is against the speaker post to the right of the convertible. About all you can see is the handlebars. As a note - that convertible is Winston’s.
