Notice of the passing of a friend. John Crandall "Piute"

We have noticed that on the web page that John Crandall “Piute” , shared with us all; under his “Comments” section, that he has passed away.

It is announced on June the 1st, that “They” have buried him a week ago.

This comes as a great shock to all his friends…and there are many…I don’t know how all of us missed any notice of his passing.

John was a very strong person; facing challenges that many of us could never even try to accept. He always seemed to find the strength to carry on, sharing knowledge and ideas with anyone that showed an interest. His web page was an artform in it’s self.
If you go to his web site, you can find a note from a friend who announces his passing, way back on June 1st…there is an email addy. There is also a note from “Dixie” who I gather is his sister, along with her email addy.

I wish I could give more information, but I don’t have any.

John; You shared many ideas and no end of information with us all....you offered your friendship freely to anyone that was willing to chat....Thank you....

Rest in peace my friend…and may that “End of track” be only an illusion…keep running forward, in peace for ever…without end.

Fr.Fred

I’m sorry to say I never got the chance to meet or even talk with John. It looks like he was only 52 when he passed after a long battle with MS. I’m glad someone is continuing to keep his website active. He left a lot of great info there: The Big Yawn & Over Bite RR

This is a sad day indeed. Truly, a inspiration to all and sundry.

Farewell, Piute. He showed great strength while his body failed him. He was a true fountain of positive outlook. He always signed off of chat with this image.

Man…ya always think you’ll get round to calling…or catching up with a fella…

When John quit chatting for a while about 4 years ago I did a web search and found his phone number and rang him. He sounded weak and I think I disoriented him a bit since I was phoning from Australia but I’m glad to have made one-on-one contact with him and to let him know that his LS mates (buddies) were thinking of him.
Good friend. Another one of us oldies gone…JD Laffoon, NJ George Thomas, Tiny, now Piute
John, enjoy the trip through the universe, we are all made of star-stuff.

John (Piute) was a wonderful person. His chat logo of a bearded guy in a wheelchair with a rifle in his lap described him well. Always willing to help anyone who asked and often even when you didn’t. He was the one that did the moving lights version of my lighthouse herald for me and presented it as a surprise.

He made a couple of very brief appearances on the chat a couple of years ago but didn’t stay long. Prior he and Tiny were the ones that kept the chat going and for many years Piute would be the last to sign off with his “End of Track” photo. I do miss them both. Happy voyage dear friends…
