After seeing some of Vics micro layouts and also seeing this layout in G scale

it really got me hooked on doing something indoors. I really want to do G scale but I doubt space will allow this. (im looking for something like a dog bone or loop to Loop). The problem is G scale takes up a lot of space as compared to the smaller like N scale. I want something narrow gauge (logging/mine). N scale seems too small. What else would compare to G scale. I thought about ON30 but no nothing about. All I know is it runs on HO track. How big are the rolling stock compared to HO. I like ON30 because it seem affordable as compared to O. What does everyone else think. Im looking at a space of 2-3 ft wide and 5-6 ft long. GIve ot take.
On30 is O scale equipment or 1/48. The narrow guage stuff is a bit smaller than standard guage O but not by a huge margin. The Nice thing is since it is narrow guage tight turns would fit nicely.
They also make HOn3 which is HO 1/87 and I believe runs on N scale track.

Gn15 is fun (G scale on On30/HO track). When I build the new bigger and better shop, I plan on a shelf layout behind glass (to keep the dust out) for the trolleys to run. It will be a city scene that will also have a Gn15 industrial scene.
Take a look over at - http://www.gn15.info/ and the forum - http://forum.gn15.info/index.php

HOn30 is what you are thinking about that runs on N scale track. AHM made a lot of stuff at one time (I still have my 0-4-0 tank and Plymouth switcher) Still a few companies out there making engine bodies for N scale mechanisms.
For my money, if I was going to get rid of all my HOstuff and move to something else for inside, I would go the On30 route. Almost had my wife convinced at Chirstimas that we could find room for another railroad around here someplace.
Well, I have quite a bit of On30, bunch of O gauge Lionel and some G live steam so I guess it depends on what ever turns your crank.
It’s all good.

The prime determiner is, How big an area do you have to work with?
Aristo still makes 30 and 20 inch diameter circles in G, so space may not be as big an issue
Why not make it an 0n30 extension of your Kittatiny Mountain RR? Bart Salmons in WV does that with his. Same RR just indoor and a different scale. Just make it a small switching layout on a mine spur. Empties in and loads out to a destination on the outside layout. Or vice versa if you have a mine spur on the outdoor layout. You can do a lot of switching in a 3x6’ space with 0n30. Mines about 18" by 16’ but even half of that has possibilities.

The Salida & Western is an 0n30 switching layout built on a shelf in the garage about 16’ long by 18" wide.

Theoretically I could make this an extension of my outdoor layout.

The RGS fiddle yard is on a shelf under the 0n30 layout.
On30 or On36 are two scales growing in popularity and being marketed by manufacturers. That means you should be able to find a lot of equipment that would suit you. They both use standard HO track which makes it less expensive than Large Scale the so called “G” gauge track. If I was doing an indoor layout I would definetly go with either of these two scales. You can cram a lot of stuff in a small space and still be able to see and work on the equipment as it is much larger than HO. There are also a lot of buildings that are made for O gauge trains that are the right scale for On30 or On36. Try to see a few layouts before you commit. Good lucik.

That whole picture is “scary” it’s so neat and well organized!!! LOL The Regal but you did give me an idea on how to raise my layout outdoors. “Thankee”.
Thanks guys. I think I decided to give ON30 a try since it seems the most affordable. Now I need to come up with a track plan. Are their any sites out their with small track plans? I have an idea what I want but I want to see if their are any better options I missed. Im looking at area of around 4-5ft by 2-3ft Mainly want to run dogbone or loop to loop with sideings. Logging
Vic: you have posted some great track plans in the past.

Little bigger than you have, but could be a starting point.
Vic,
I can see why that beaver would be angry, bit his own damn tail!
Vic has a pissed off beaver?
No, pissed on…
