Not steam and won't be public, but EBT to run a train in October

From the EBT List…

Friends of the East Broad Top 2012 Fall Reunion to Feature Operating EBT Train

What may be the only train to operate over the slim-gauged tracks of the East Broad Top Railroad in 2012 will be the feature event of the FEBT 2012 Fall Reunion. The EBT railroad will be operating center-cab diesel M-7 with several cars on Saturday October 6th exclusively for FEBT members who register for the Fall Reunion. The train will operate from Orbisonia to Colgate Grove and return at sunset.

Please make special note, although non-member Reunion registrations are available, the Saturday train is restricted to FEBT member Reunion registrants ONLY. The train is being operated by the EBT in appreciation of the efforts of the members of the FEBT. FEBT memberships will be available at the Reunion Registration desk. Regular membership is $35 per year and gives a discount to $40 on the Reunion registration.

Now that’s cool! Happy for every one involved to see an agreement like this worked out.

Hopefully this is the start of more agreements. It would be a shame to let the EBT go by the wayside because some people cant get along.

Pretty sure (but still a guess) that this is not being operated by the East Broad Top Preservation Assoc.

Mr. K has an associate (McHugh?) that is qualified on the M-7,. They have operated it recently during several spectaculars. My other guess is that it is limited to FEBT members due to insurance. FEBT members are specifically covered by the EBT’s general liability insurance while on the property. That was part of the deal when they began doing volunteer restoration work. This resulted in a requirement that in order to work you must be a paid-up member. There is no reason that they would be maintaining a passenger insurance policy when not operating public trains.
