I’ve been working on this project for the past couple months. It’s not modeling, but it is tangentially related to my layout. I transformed a section of our lower yard to not only look better but also tie it in to the landscape on the railroad.

Here are a pair of “before” images:

And here is how it looks now:

We have lots of lizards in our yard, which are practically pets. Occasionally we get some snakes too. So when I built these stone structures I created lots of little “caves” and hiding places of various sizes, making it an excellent reptile habitat.

Very nice. I love the flat red stones as cap and walkway. Did the block landscape wall already exist? I’m thinking it must have because regular concrete block would have been much cheaper seeing as it was ultimately going to be hidden.

I put the block wall in several years ago, just to contain the excess soil that was removed when I built the railroad. Those blocks are designed for use as retaining walls. Regular concrete blocks would have needed a foundation plus reinforcements.

Ray, I don’t know of anyone who can take a pile of ‘rocks’ and turn it into artwork like you can. Fantastic work!

Gary, it’s a succulent in bloom. A variety of “Mexican hen-and-chicks” but I don’t remember the specific variety. Home Depot had bunch different kinds.

Ray, since I kinda know the In-Ko-Pah area, I always seem to forget you do not actually live on theat side of the mountain, the yard is so devoid of green, just like the other side of the hill from where you live. Awesome.

I like a yard with minimal maintenance. :slight_smile:

Nice stuff Ray, may I suggest an abandoned mine building set amidst the stonework to connect it with the structures on the main layout.
