I’m having trouble remembering how to upload stuff to my freight shed … so this ain’t the best photo for what I’m talking about, BUT…
On a locomotive with a cab like this:

how does one open the windows? The window is made of three framed panes of glass that divide the window area in thirds. Photos of the inside of the cab show that it really DOESN’T look like the windows are designed to slide. Even if this is a function of someone rebuilding the cab the wrong way (the locomotive is now in a museum and has obviously had a few quick attempts at restoration…) and the windows DID slide, it looks like you’d only ever be able to slide one behind another, giving you your choice of which 1/3 of the window you wanted to be open … but for a large engineer in a small cab you’d really want more like 2/3 to be open… and there are photos of this particular locomotive’s twin being operated that way (they even removed one of the posts so there’s a 2/3 opening) but it’s not clear where the windows went while they did this.
Anybody know for sure?
