Large Scale Central

Not eggsactly modeling but an eggscellant train nonetheless

After seeing what Jerry Barnes did with his eggs - http://www.aristocraft.com/vbulletinforums/showthread.php?t=10710 , I couldn’t help but steal his idea. I created a couple of cars - an egg diner and egg coach and modified the egg critter loco. The cars use Aristo Sierra trucks and all the marker lights are lit with grain of wheat bulbs (what a pain in the butt that was!). The coach car has power pick ups with a new style Sierra truck. The cars are electrically interconnected with each other and the loco. The egg loco got new air tanks, smoke stack, bell, horn, headlight and front bumper. I trimmed down a pair of two axle truck side frames and glued them to the sides.

My egg train will be making its inaugural run at our club’s January meeting tomorrow (Sunday, January 20th) where we run trains for the public from 1 to 4 pm at the Fairfax Station RR Museum ( http://www.fairfax-station.org/ ). -Brian

Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Phfart smeller that Lewis Polk.

I dont have an account on the aristo forum, can you post the images here?

Very creative, Brian, I like that.

Good job Brian, you improved on mine. I’ll steal some of your ideas to make the loco look different from the cars. Mine only has the snow plow. You may have to file down the sideframes you put on the loco, to clear switches/etc. I had to on mine. I need to convert mine to battery power now, to run outside. Had it around the tree at Xmas.
Jerry

Thanks guys. Bob, I think I figured out what you meant (I just read about the My Files)-

Thanks Jerry. I had fun and put my own twist on it. I trimmed down the sideframes just below the brake cylinders with a heavy duty dremel disk. I gave the the egg a body lift with longer screws and a couple of small nuts between the truck and body. Just enough to make the axle ends line up with journals. -Brian

Yep, works fine. Neat eggliner mods…

Brian, your coaches seem to be sitting a little high. I cut out areas and drilled holes in my floors to make sure the screws on top of the trucks were not holding the car up any. I too plan to raise my Eggliner up some, when I get in there to convert it to battery power. Plan to rig a switch to go from battery to track-may use it around the Xmas tree again next year.

You’re very observant, Jerry. The wheel flanges on the Sierra trucks come up to the top of the trucks. If they bounced any, they would be hitting the bottom of the car, I use a bit of plastic I beam to make a bolster. It also gave me a sturdy spot to attach the trucks with a couple of screws. I saw you cut yours out and thought that was too much work. I had to raise the body a bit on the loco to fit in the side frames anyway and it matches the cars pretty well now.
I may work in simple battery power also with these packs -

and this cheap motor speed controller -

Brian, I used my Dremel tool to grind out slots for the wheels, just marked them and cut them out with the disc tool. Jerry

can the end of the observation cars be special orded form the parts dept or are you guys cutting the cars ends off every time?? Surprised someone hasn’t made a tank car, flatbed, hopper, etc… to make an eggliner freight train. Or is someone doing this already?

I think Jerry ordered his from Aristo. I got mine from someone on eBay who was selling them by the pairs ($10/pair). Aristo does have a line of 20 foot 2 axle shortie cars that would work well with these.
