Large Scale Central

Not a surprise but

And I’m going to use the 500 ft that I took up 2 years ago. I could use some more switches, though.

Yes, Jon…I bought a lot last year before the price hike…now I have more than I’ll ever need…just lucky. I guess I could sell it at any time for gold…!!!

Dang smart investors weren’t we [ /me pats self on back ]. To bad we didn’t have a clue what we were doing or we’d have bought 10 times as much. Lewis would have had a cow giving me 10 free boxes of 5 footers :o

Oh, getting back to price increases, will be interesting to see what make of track people buy for Spring construction.
I bought 3 boxes of LGB 4 footers used over a year ago. I have also been lucky enough to get a bunch of used track a few months back for $1 to $2 each with Hillman's or Split Jaws on them. LAO

I was at Pioneer Valley Hobbies in West Springfield yesterday. I saw at least 2 full boxes of new LGB 16000 track and 3 boxes of used 16000 track with clamps. They also had a small inventory of rolling stock and engines.
If anyone is interested give them a call in mass.

Piko Track images. Hope they aren’t too big.

Larry:

I would say that anything that is over 3 screens wide and takes ~4 minutes to download over my dialup connection qualifies as too big. Just my opinion.

GET HIGHSPEED!!!HEH HEH

I would if I could!!

I live in a semi-rural community in N. California, about 2 hours north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Our California Public Utilities Commission has determined that broadband internet service is not within their purview, and is doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to support getting it into our rural communities. This is possibly a good thing, as the last time the CPUC ‘did anything’, it nearly doubled the costs of electricity in California while causing Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to declare bankruptcy. Some slick ‘energy suppliers’ in Texas did very well for a short while, but I’m certain everyone knows the name Enron!

AT&T, our local phone supplier, will only supply broadband if you rent a T-1 line @ $900 / month. We have looked into sharing it among several folks in the neighborhood, but that distributed cost is still very high. There is also the equipment acquisition costs that must be paid by the subscriber, along with the fact that we would then be ‘operating’ our own ‘communications’ company. Lots of rules and regulations involved for us to go there.

The wait for something like a Hughes Net or Wild Blue satellite installation is in months (if ever), costs in the neighborhood of $500, and is well over $50 / month for something that is only about double my current dialup. And that lack of speed doesn’t include the latency times typical of satellite internet.

We could get ISDN, but it costs by the minute, with approximately double the speed and amount of service I now have costing something over $75 / month.

All suggestions for TRUE broadband service would be greatly appreciated. I’m not interested in something that only works marginally faster and costs several times as much as I pay now.

Happy RRing,

Jerry

Yup - That photo is plenty big, but you sure can see the tie detail - including the bolt heads

Sorry Jerry. I had shrunken both pictures by 50%. Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa.
LAO

Larry, the arguement is not with the straigt track, its the switches and it’s 30 degree arch geometry the straight and surves are really no differnt than LGB

Yep and you can sure see that it doesn't look like LGB track other than the profile which apparently comes from the same source.

Mark,

Actually the dimensions of the curves - other than the 600mm rad - are all different.

921mm(R3) and 1243mm(R5) sure doesn’t sound like a LGB rad to me.
The LGB are 780mm(R2), 1195mm(R3), 2320mm(R5).
Just because PIKO decides to also call theirs R3 and R5 doesn’t mean they’re the same!
