If they are going to be done in 9 months, they’d better be working fast!

The age of steam Guys are helping out on this too!

top jacket removed now!

The front flue sheet after all the superheater units have been removed. Next step – cut out the flues and tubes.

Man, that’s a lot of tubes!

Sure is, and at least two different sizes. I wonder if those two plugs at the bottom were a quick repair for some leakers.

Just like a model; easy to take apart but requires some real skill to put back together in working order!

Gee, under all the pretty shrouding, she is a real rust bucket.

One of the issues with the lagging (boiler insulation) is that not only does it keep a hot boiler hot, but it traps moisture in on a cold boiler, and holds it to the steel, Generally not an issue to a daily runner, but it can play havoc with an engine that sets out side for extended periods between runs, not a really big concern in the boiler shell itself, but all the smaller gage stuff on an engine can be in peril.

BTW: Wow what a luxury to be able to stand in the smoke box. On the D&RGW 315 it is an exercise in kneeling and crouching at best. Yoga practice and pretzel study helps.

Ahh, the needle gun. Every surface sailor is an expert operator.

What’s the diameter of that boiler?
