Nook vs Kindle vs Ipad

I’ve had my Kindle for about a year and I really enjoy it. I haven’t seen the others, so I really can’t comment on them.

It’s NOT like reading on a laptop or monitor - as you do need light to read. It that respect, it’s more like a book, and you won’t have the eye strain that staring at a computer screen can give you. Besides, it’s hard to read that computer screen in bed.

It is very lightweight and now has folders that allow you to organize your library, if you so desire. I like the 3G coverage at no extra charge - I can get another book any time I want.

I typically read every night and the battery lasts for weeks.

I like that I can easily adjust the font size to whatever my eyes feel like reading.

Whenever I run across a word I’m not familiar with, I can simply move the cursor to that word and I get the definition. I find I use this more than I thought - maybe my vocabulary isn’t all that great.

I really do prefer it to reading a paper book. It’s lighter and easier to turn the pages.

Too expensive.
I pondered on my book for 2 weeks before I spent the 100 bucks for my book They list for 149.00.
I bought it from a friend that just that needed money. So I saved 49 bucks She hadn’t used it yet so it is new.

I guess a book is also a single gadget. I don't go for single use gadgets either, but the electronic book is really great. When U travel around U can take 50 books with you and it isn't any bigger or heavier than the gadget it self. Try carrying 50 books with you on a bus or train, or even your bike. Don't drop your lap top when your on your bike now. I'll get on my Whiplash and ride. Talk practical here. Come on you can see it. Save a tree or two, it wont hurt.

Myself, I don't want another "gadget" to keep up with. I can read electronic books on my computer or laptop. Another single purpose gadget................I don't think so ;) Ralph
Like I said, computer or laptop. I bet you can probably read them on your "smart" phone too ;) Ralph

Bruce;
I studied these two Nook and Kindle.
I got a great buy on Nook that is what I got.
These two are the best on the market right now. The one advantage the Nook has is the battery. When your kindle battery goes bad you will have to send your Kindle back for a battery replacement. On the other hand the nook has a replaceable battery, that you can replace your self. Both are very good ereaders. I like them both.

That is cool.

Well Here I go again.
How would you like to stay in your chair / sofa and page through 700 of your favorite books. And you didn’t have to put in 70 books shelves to do it.
That alone would save you enough Mulligans to buy your ereader.

Me as well, I like to have a real book in my lap. (and besides they look nice in the bookcase, I can walk by and pick a book either for general reading or to get some specific info from. All by not having to 'fire up' some electronic gizmo.)

Oh no I just thought of something. Ralph didn’t want a single use gadget. Well a sound card is a single use gadget. so is a PC transmitter, or how about a transformer.
The track we run our trains on is a single use gadget also. The world is made up of single use gadgets. It just depends on ones mind set.

Hear Ye All, Ye must conform. David K has spoken

Glad we of the USA are allowed to have our own opinions and don’t have to conform to the narrow mindset of ONE. I’ll continue reading real, bound paper books. I prefer them!

Edited to ask
By the way what country is Milton in David ?

I sure like mt iPad. We just got back from two weeks in Quartzsite and it was sure nice to check my email, etc. I haven’t used it for books yet but soon will. I will probably go with audio books.

I’m dropping my Garden Railways subscription because they don’t have an electronic version. With my poor eyesight I have to use a magnifying glass to read the magazine. If I had an electronic version I could enlarge it.

And the winner is …iPad! Thor a nice juicy bonus at work and the ability to watch netfiix were what pushed it into th lead. Bought it Thursday evening and I’m very pleased!
R

good for you Bart. Hope you enjoy it.

Now if someone would write a trains operations app for the iPad I’d even be happier with mine!

I know there’s an app to turn your iPhone into a DCC controller, so it’s probably not too improbable.

Later,

K

But thats only one nice feature. It has the google sky map. Point the phone in the direction you looking at sky and it shows you all the star names etc... you are looking at. It has a bar code scanner so I can scan something in a store and it will tell me were I can get it for less money. * mega pizel camera, video camera. Its like a swiss army knife but an electronic version.
