No Quilt Shows in 2021!

The “Bride” just announced to me that there are no “Quilt Shows” scheduled for 2021. As different as this is, I think many of the Train Shows may be the same way. RLD Hobbies’ outdoor events may be one of the exceptions to the rule. Towns like Lancaster, PA or Paducah, Ky. may have enough shops to put together a “Quilt Expedition”, but where is there a gathering of Hobby Shops that you could do the same, especially in the larger scales? Just thoughts on a cloudy rainy day in the Midwest. Personal changes of location will alter this shortly, but long term, this is a miserable prediction for the Train Show events. We must make our own fun!

In Massachusetts the January BIG-E show (4 buildings of trains) canceled for 2021. This is the largest open to the public show in the country (over 20,000 attending every year).

Well at least you have something to cancel for the time being, I live in the DFW area and we are down to one train show per year for the whole metroplex and it’s now gone for now. Model trains in my area have never been what it is in the north, or the western part of the U.S., but it’s pretty much on stop here. I will say one thing, I not leaving Texas just so I can have more trains in my life, Texas life is pretty good.

Are you still planning to spend most of the winter in Florida? Traveling right now is getting difficult as many states are imposing travel bans / quarantine rules for out of state visitors. Connecticut just added a bunch of states to the list, including Massachusetts!

You have to keep checking the rules by states you are heading for. We did a short road trip to NJ, and 4 days before we left NJ put MD on the quarantine list. Before we returned, they had taken MD off the list.

They are using a “positivity” ratio (positive covid test reults vs negatives,) and that fluctuates weekly!

Last weekend we took the Autotrain back to Florida. Mandatory mask wearing except in your cabin (we had a sleeper) so it was an easy trip. (25 hrs door-to-door, which included a good night’s sleep. Go Amtrak!) There’s no-one in our part of Florida, so we’ve been taking it easy and staying home just in case.

But DFW (Frisco) has the largest Pinball show in the country. Maybe the world. But it will likely get cancelled again next year. :frowning:

Ric,

You could always visit Rooster ?

Park the Luvnasium at the shop with no hookups except electric if you are polite and ask nicely. But we will have to meet ladies in the Cumberland Valley that do quilts. I’ll take you on a ‘quilting tour’/Rooster tour and then you can pick up what you gave me at Ken’s (aside from Syphilis and lantern flies).

Can we do knitting as well? Always wanted to learn that art!

Rooster - your notes are always appreciated. Strange, but appreciated.

Jon and Pete - we leave for Florida tomorrow. No State restrictions in this part of the USA, yet. We travel fairly isolated, as we only stop for fuel and overnight camping and have little contact with people. Temps drop to 24 tomorrow night in Carlyle, so it’s time to get the Seneca south for the Winter. Our plan is to be in Cedar Key for a week and then down to the Ridge Live Steamers to park for the Winter. Current plan is to come back to Carlyle for Thanksgiving, “hotseating” it in the pickup. We’ll see. Y’all stay safe! (Practicing my Southerneeze)
