Man, it has been a long time since I’ve posted… While characteristically wasting time online the other day, I saw these CD’s available on eBay, and got a wild hair to send for the one re: D&RGW Narrow Gauge Cars. It arrived yesterday and I spent a gratifyingly onanistic evening looking at the several-hundred photos taken at the CO RR Museum, and other locales. Anyone who has spent time photographing these antique cars, and come home with a disapointingly incomplete record will get a boot out of these detail shots. With the gear change at Hartford, and our own Phil D. sulking in his tent, I’ve turned my tiny attention span to detailing & weathering my AMS plastic cars. I can scarcely imagine any detail not covered by this CD. This may appeal primarily to rivet counters among the 1:20.3 lunatics, but I’ve found there are a lot of easy improvements (Drilling nailhead holes in the siding, etc.) which can take a lot of the Bright And Shiny look away’
No frills is correct---- no captions, no descriptions, no dates, no locations. Just a bunch of weird pics of details so obscure that none but the psychotically dedicated will comprehend. $5.99, postage paid by sender, gets several hours of narrow gauge crypto porn… I love it!

If this is the same guy I bought from, I’ve bought several of them and was impressed with the number of pictures on each. Very worthwhile.
Oops! I didn’t make it clear that the brand of these CD’s is No Frills Picture CDs---- a fast google will bring up the eBay site… Senility is a terrible thing-- except during TV rerun season…

Why the fake sales pitch? You have never posted here before.

Canned Processed Meat Scraps
Did I miss something? Brian’s comment is directed at John Egert?
The ebay seller’s “name” is ken-something…
Please explain.
Greg
(I do see he has 2 posts, both on this thread)

That many pics on a CD.
Most have to be copyrighted, you’d think.
Prolly swiped off the internet.
But hey, I swipe a lot of pictures for reference. I just don’t sell 'em.
Now I don’t know if John Egert is really trying to review something he bought, or if he’s a Spammer with an interest in the product / eBay store. I’m not going to waste any energy to try and find out.
When Brian labeled it a “fake sales pitch” I tended to agree with his assessment, especially since it was John E’s first post - thus I made my Canned Processed Meat Scraps comment. I use the term Canned Processed Meat Scraps rather than Spam so as not to offend the Armour company
Splained good enuf Lucy ?
I tend to agree with John B. - After looking at the eBay store I’d suspect this is shovel-ware and probably violates at least one or two copyrights. Does look like a nice collection of photos though.
Hmm… There would seem to be some quirk of logic that indicates no one here has ever made a first post… just jump right to a couple thousand, like when you get a new checking account… No, you Alert Fellows, I am real enough, and the product I reviewed is real enough as well. Now, whether photos taken of these public exhibits and sold in this manner violates copyright law, I will leave for others to determine and litigate. Whoever this seller is, he seems to have been doing this for some time, with a modicum of success. I like the product, and am not yet convinced that it represents anything unethical.
As for me, I used to post fairly regularly on MLS some years ago, but was out of actively pursuing the hobby for a couple of years…
Hell! This is my third post!! That ought to count for SOMETHING, eh??

Man, it has been a long time since I've posted........

Maybe this is part of your ready acceptance problem
Could be good info you’re passing, but I’m not going to spend my time or money on an unknown.
A little intro, some pics, hell even a bit of known in your profile might help

John -
Since I was one that pointed a finger, let me also try to explain why I was skeptical of your post…
LSC is one of the only train sites where you can sign up and immediately post a review or and advertisement in For Sale or Classifieds at no cost whatsoever. This fact results in a lot of one post wonders who stop by, post something they have for sale, and are never heard from again. So, when someone’s first post appears to promote a product, then I am cautions at the least.
I guess it was a bit unfair to label you as a spammer without giving you a chance to respond. For that I apologize.
I look forward to hearing about your railroad, past present or future.
John,
I remember you from that other place.
Welcome to the Dark Side…
Thanks, Steve… And I’m even going to state the reason why I came to LSC rather than MLS, and it will doubtless cause an epidemic of involuntary bowel movements among the Delicate Ones. I came here because…wait for it… because this site is still pallettable/hospitable to the infamous TOC!!! Like a mutant groupie, I have followed that lunatic from site to site because he Knew Things that I needed to know----- and that’s still the case. Well, I’ve said it, and The Devil take the hindmost… How weird is that???
john
There are no delicate ones here.
And yer right, TOC is a certified lunatic.
Sorry for the nice welcome you got from the others (as well as me) here.
How many pics are on the CDs?
John,
Yes, for God’s sake, let’s get back to trains immediately!
This geek claims to have 800 odd pix on the disc, but it doesn’t seem QUITE that full----- suffice to say there are several hundred, and the dozen or so on the preview are typical. Though I live a long morning’s drive from Chama, I don’t get up there as often as I’d like, and it seems that when I take photos, I invariably come home one pic short of what I need. Case -in-point: Neither AMS nor even Hartford includes the Camel brand hasp/lock setup on the end doors of D&RGW boxcars. ( Do we sniff some fidgetmeister rivet counting here, Brethren??} After forgetting to photo it a couple of times, I was pleased to note this CD covered it thoroughly. Likewise, the pins used to lock stock car doors, and the endlessly variable caboose ladders and roof grabs, etc., etc., --all included.
Again, it seems like a good deal for 6 bucks including postage, and after I get MY cut…
john
I remember John from way back on MLS, close to ten years. With the tone of the conversation in the past few years on MLS, many have left to greener pastures. Don’t see many of the old-timers there any more.
