OOhh I have a Headache !
David Marconi said:That should work about as well as our "one gauge to fit all scales". ;)
I can see them now one coupler to fit all scales. Or is that one scale to fit all couplers?
Yeah, Ray and pretty much the reason why the one coupler standard won’t work
Am I missing something here? Compatible and identical are two different things.
I don’t see what has everyone’s panties in a wad. I’m sure someone will fill me in
Ralph
Pretty much just the mish mash of scales that are covered by “large scale”. Hard to make a scale coupler for 1:20 that is compatable with a scale coupler for 1:29 that also works with scale 1:24. Someplace along the line you have to give up on SCALE. And they don’t even have to get to identical when scale is in the picture.
Edited to add I don’t really care as I run what I like and will deal with whatever they come up with as I do now
I don’t know what happened to mind your own bussiness or run what you like in this country? NMRA please go faaaaaar far away. I belonged to a HO club that relied heavily on the NMRA. If it wasn’t the right car, color, period it didn’t run. That club has sense disappeared. Wonder why?? Maybe the NMRA membership could find a project to keep them busy rather than dream up some rules just to show us who they are. Like I care. Go paint a fence, plant a tree, build a boat, take a long walk off a short pier… I do not appreciate someone telling me what I should be buying and what should be made standard for me if what your selling I am going to remove anyway. This is a hobby, a very nice hobby. You buy what you want, run what you want. Our trains are not life size, incase you had not noticed. We do not need the FRA, (NMRA) to inspect them. This is suppost to be fun. After all many would say these were toys. My hats off to those of you from Large scale that have voluntered your time to try to get involved. Kevin Strong being one of them. In my opinion he is fair. How ever in the past the NMRA didn’t listen, why now? An example would be the “Super Socket”. Great. We have a plug that not all RC providers use and if they do have it, it’s and accessory. What? I though the NMRA was suppost to fix that. Truth be told there was some side deals going on, and we get what we gets. Just ask TOC. So the NMRA did me one favor they made it so I probably pay more so the loco can have this great socket. I then take out my side cutters and throw that extra $$$ away. Well hopefully I won’t be paying extra for a coupler I won’t use with the rest of my equipment.
Can there be a standardized mounting pad which can be placed on both body and truck?
Some do it in HO and N.
Ought to be easier in large scale.
Real question in my mind is coupler height. That will likely have to be different in fine scale applications.
Perhaps a fine scale standard and a general scale standard?

Mfg. having a standartized coupler platform for your choice of coupler – including the one with the rolling stock – makes sense considering the variance in size for rolling stock. Me? (gasp) I use the hook 'n loops because they are very friendly to sharp radius track – and EZ to uncouple per a thin blade screwdriver pushing down between the hook 'n loops.

due to the urgent need for regulation, the southamerican modell railroad association has been founded.
after serious brainstorming and various comitee sessions, we proudly present the first ever southamerican “G-scale” standards:
- Rails should not be more than 2" apart.
- Voltage in track should not exceed 110V during use.
- Locos should be at least four-weeled, not two legged.
- Couplers should be at front and rear of cars, not at the side.
So Korm, under Rule #4 if I do not put a coupler on the rear of the caboose I am building and if it were to run south of the Panama Canal, it would be in violation of said rule.
Randy.
Randy, wrooong! “4) Couplers should be at front and rear of cars, not at the side.” just refers to the location, where they SHOULD be put if one puts any… edit: it has been proposed to standardize adaptors for connecting different couplers. the favorite:
Now I got it!!! We would not be in violation of any ‘rules’ or ‘RP’s’ would we.
Thanks for the carification Korm.
