NMRA Standards for LS ...?

Hi all,

The NMRA is throwing things wide open for discussion, well sort of I guess.

Anyone interested in the nitty-gritty can check out
http://www.nmra.org/standards/pfc/PFC_Standards.html
and download the items of interest.

I know that I’ll be checking a few things and comparing to the NEM standards. It would be nice if the various orgs could get their acts together and start reading from the same page instead of reinventing the wheel at regular intervals.

Best regards

HJ

Large Scale Standards? We’ll sort of…

I thought I might just provide some reference pages from the NMRA. One of these updates actually include dimensions for 1:20.3, 1:22.5, 1:29 & 1:32

COVERING MODELLING ERA PERIOD CENTRES

  • Old-Time/Narrow Gauge Before 1920 12 feet
  • Classic 1920 to 1969 13 feet
  • Early Modern 1969 to 1983 14 feet
  • Modern After 1983 14 feet

7.1 Tangent Track Clearances and Diagrams

7.2 Curved Track Centres

7.3 Curved Track Obstacle Clearances

Bill,

Good information, although only Tangent Track Clearance and Diagrams mentions any of the LS variants directly, the other start at ‘0’ Scale. I also find that even that (now) Recommended Practice is not entirely up to speed.

Recommended Practice RP- 7.1, Note 6 references NMRA Data Sheet D9p Clearance Diagrams. The document is not linked, making it difficult to reference. A google search reveals that the sheet is still available on the NMRA web site (for how long no one knows) https://www.nmra.org/sites/default/files/d9p.pdf. This document provides the data in 12"=1’-0" (prototype) dimensions. For those interested I would strongly recommend going to the link I provided and downloading the data sheet before NMRA ‘cleans up’ their web site.

Until I read your post, I was not aware that NMRA had changed many of the ‘S’ standards to ‘RP’ Recommended Practice documents. I don’t know if there were any changes in the data during the change, but anything is possible.
