NGRC 17 Who's going?

Who’s coming to the National Garden Railways Convention in Tulsa?

You can sign up at http://ngrc2017.org

Tom, I’m trying to get a contingent from Wichita to come down for a few days but so far I haven’t received much interest. I’ll keep trying.

Alas, I’ve got the Narrow Gauge Convention in my back yard (literally) this September, so the NGRC is out for me.

Later,

K

I hope the sponsoring club gets a better turn out than is indicated here. Even if I were interested Tulsa is out of my travel range.

It looks like there will be a contingent from the Sacramento Valley Garden Railway Society. I’m looking forward to Tulsa. I understand there are a lot of art deco buildings there.

I will be there, I am the clinic coordinator, so I guess I should to be there.
Still have a few openings left, if interested in giving a clinic, drop me a line

Several people from the OGRS club in SW Missouri will be there

Sharon and I will be there. Hoping to get an eyeball with fellow LSC, MLS, and Marty’s Alumni. We will be spending a lot of time at the NGRC 2019 booth. See you there.

Michael

Two months, Two weeks and a few days until the 2017 NGRC…oooh I am so excited I could rip off David Letterman…so I think I will.

Boomer’s Top 10 Reasons to come to Oklahoma!!!

10 Oklahoma has no Major League Baseball Team, so I can wear my Texas Rangers hat and not have to make excuses for their horrible performance so far this season.

9 Cimarron County in Oklahoma’s panhandle is the only county in the United States that touches four other states: New Mexico, Texas (pretty sure it does this against it’s will), Colorado and Kansas.

8 Oklahoma boasts amazing geography including the worlds tallest official hill: Cavanal Hill at 1,999 feet and four mountain ranges: the Ouachita Mountains, the Arbuckle Mountains, the Wichita Mountains, and the Ozark Mountains. None of which breaks 5000 ft.

7 Oklahoma created Route 66 when in 1927, businessman Cyrus Avery, created the first section of the famous highway between Tulsa and Amarillo. I will be driving this very length of highway…maybe I will meet Martin Milner along the way.

6 Oklahoma is the home state of Reba McEntire…she’s purty (and I hear she can sing) and at 61 she is the perfect pop icon for most garden railroaders.

5 Oklahoma is also the birth place of Will Rogers…his claim that he never met a man he didn’t like is proof that he was never a member of MLS.

4 Oklahoma City is the headquarters of Hobby Lobby, it will be nice to see where my money has been going all these years.

3 Oklahoma is the only state to be the basis for a Rogers and Hammerstein musical…okay we will call that one a draw.

2 Rooster will not be attending the NGRC, but Boomer will…we will call that one a draw too.

and the # 1 reason to come to the NGRC in Tulsa…I look forward to shaking a few hands and meeting some of you cool cats in person!!!

July 10 - 15…Where the wind comes sweeping down the plain!!!

http://thinktulsa17.com/

We got a good group from Houston Area ‘G’ Gaugers going. NGRC is held at the time of our monthly meeting, so we held a campaign and will hold our meeting in Tulsa. I can not wait to see the railroads and say hello to friends.

Boomer, I couldn’t have made a better advertisement.

Boomer we need to meet up somewhere. it should be fun

Dennis

I got an IDEA!!!

Lets have a LSC High Plains Drag and Brag.

I am staying at the convention hotel. Renaissance Tulsa.

Tuesday night July 11th. Meet in the Lobby at 7:00.

Look for the sad caveman wearing the Texas Rangers hat…unless the boys are out of the cellar by then in which case I will be smiling form ear to ear.

From there we can go to Dave and Busters or Fox and Hound. Both are close by and I am sure they will welcome all customers, even ones with trains.

Anybody interested in this?

Sounds like a plan to me. Since I’m part of the club putting it on, I might have duties to attend to.

I’m easy to spot. Likely the only one there running around barefoot.

I dunno, Tom. It is Oklahoma after all. My mom grew up there and as kids I dont think she even allowed us to have shoes in summer around the house

T - 30 Days and counting!!!

I know I am busy getting the peeps packed for one of my clinics… “Commercially Available 1/20.3 Figures”. Vehicles still to go.

Wonder what it will be like?..

Hmm Looks a little tense… but if Nicole Kidman is going to be there I am in!!!

Still time to sign up hint hint… http://thinktulsa17.com/

I just watched the movie “Tulsa,” about (duh) Oklahoma oil in the 20’s. It was shot in the late '40’s, and there are a few shots of steam locomotives. Now I’m ready for the Convention. If you don’t mind an interloper, I might drop in Tuesday night. We’ll arrive Sunday evening from Burbank, CA. We’ll also be returning to Los Angeles about eight days later via Amtrak’s Heartland Flyer, Texas Eagle, and Sunset Limited.

Indian uprisings are rare these days, but still possible.

Something new under the sun? Well I for one have never seen this done before. Check the classifications for the building contests. copied here from the NGRC site. With all of the interest on LSC recently about lasers, printers and matter transmogrifiers I thought some of you techno-twidgets might have some comments. Perhaps it may convince a few more folks to come join the fun.

Classifications:

Scratch Built: This class is intended for models built largely from basic or scratch materials. No more than 50% of material can be commercially manufactured items.

Kit Built: This classification is intended for models comprised of more than 50% kit or largely commercial parts to allow them to compete with similarly built models rather than typically higher scoring scratch built models.

Machine Built: This class is intended for models primarily built using 3d printing, laser cutting and other computer methods. This does not preclude parts of other categories being made by machine.

The new NMRA?

hehe

I was editing that page while I was making parts with my 3d printer. Seemed like a good idea when I asked around, so I made up a category.

Do I see Boomer K is presenting clinics on figures and vehicles?
