New York Elevated RR (early)?

With the purchase of a new Accucraft Forney, and deciding to build an outdoor elevated railroad, it seems a natural theme would be the New York City RR elevated line from the early 20th Century.

So far I only saw a few photos but it looks to be an interesting line to model and a good “excuse” for the track to be elevated to “arthritic knees level”.

Anyone have any suggestions for research materials/websites?

Sounds interesting, but don’t forget the 50 story buildings for the flavor.

Shorpy has some photos of the elevated lines in NY and Chicago. Good place to start.
Ralph

I’ll draw a mural on my house of the NYC skyline.

I found some pics Ralph. The superstructure supporting the tracks have some interesting details in different locations. I’ll use one or two of the ones I like.

Did these same lines run underground when the terrain elevation changed? Anyone know?

This one might interest you, too… even though it’s a Mason, not a Forney

Some uneven tie spacing there.

Yep, looks like some of the used stuff I have here with mismatched salvaged tie strips to replace the ones that crumbled. There's a prototype for everything.... :D
