New WuHu locomotives at Diamondhead

Sal posted a bunch of photos from his google plus stash, and I noted some new ones on the WuHu stand. How about this guy:

They are also doing a G-1 UK Britannia (already did a G-3 version) and an Austrlian (?) C38. [Aren’t Accucraft doing a C38 for Argyle ? ]

Wow I like that one. Keep us updated with more pictures from DH.

I like that Chessie loco(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Yes Pete

Accucraft are doing an Australian C38 for Argyle. http://www.argyleloco.com.au/argyle_locomotives.htm#C38

Seems strange two models of the same loco in what is probably a smallish market.

That is a great looking piece, if only I was more confident in running live steam…

I beleeve you’ll find that they are both made in the same location…

The G3 Britannia, sold here in UK by Kingscale, is a VERY fine model indeed, gas [with a new-fangled ceramic burner that is silent] or coal-fired, as are their new Coronations. Remarkable value for money, too, if you have the space to run full-length passenger trains in this scale.

@Mr Agostino - if you are leery of running live-steam, you should be heartened by the fact that my ten-y/o granddaughter has been doing it for almost three years now - gas AND meth.

Tac,

While I know they are both made in China, it’s a bit silly to have two manufacturers making the same model. Maybe there’s a rationale for 2 QJs from 2 chinese factories - presuming the chinese enthusiasts can afford one. But a duplicate Aussie loco?? What a waste.

The Gauge-1 Britannia in 1/32nd looks like a winner.

And that C&O Hudson - what a beast. Hope there are some coaches around to match it.

You just need to try it. Lots of advice here - including a thread on which books to read!

The Gauge 1 Britannia, formerly made for Trevor Taylor of the Gauge 1 Model Company, is now being made for Accucraft UK, who bought out the G1MC in late October of last year. I was talking to both Trevor and Graham at the AGM of G1MRA - Trevor asking me if I wanted to buy the very last G1MC Rebuilt Merchant Navy, and Graham Langer and Ian Pearse looking like the cats who got the cream. The announcement of the acquisition of G1MC by Accucraft UK has been greeted with great enthusiasm here in yUK. Trevor’s RBM is a gem, at less than 60% of the cost of the Aster version. To see that it will continue in production, as well as the Britannia, can only do the hoddy good.

There is no doubt that there is a lot of shared manufacture at both Bowande and WuHu - this is simply one more manifestation of it.

Some info on the real deal, with photos of her in museum http://www.borail.org/CO-No-490.aspx

Shortly after the end of the war, the C&O decided to upgrade their passenger service. The C&O was primarily a coal-hauler and therefore wanted to improve steam locomotive technology. They developed a new luxury liner between Washington and Cincinnati named the “Chessie.” The new liner was to be powered by experimental steam-turbine-electric locomotives. In addition, the C&O’s Huntington shops rebuilt the No. 490 and the other 4-6-2s into 4-6-4 “Hudsons.” The new locomotives had roller bearings, front-end throttle, high-speed booster, cross counterbalance, and the Franklin system of steam distribution.

If we were not going to the ECLSTS it would definitely be on my list of places to go, but we have specific things we need to find at the show this year. I just need more time to fiddle with live steam, by the time I get the locomotive to run at the speed I like it is either already out of water or fuel… Sometimes both!

Tac,

I’m confused - I thought Bowande (the trade name of Wuhu Brand Arts & Crafts Co., Ltd - they are one company as far as I can see,) made a Gauge 3 Brittania, not a G-1 version. Bowandeusa says they have now decided to build a G-1 version.

Was there a G-1 Brittania available before now?

P.S. Who made/makes the G-3 LMS Coronation? Is that a WuHu/Bowande product too?

Saw it run but had a couple of issues with low catcher dragging probably need to add beefer springs and had a ATS attached to tender that keep derailing tender as it would hit the turnout rail of the turnout. Going to not put on production run locos.
