New work table

Since moving last year I have not had any work table to do anything on, I had a nice place in the basement of our old house that I had built and had all kinds of room and storage.

New house basement is all finished, garage to cold in Winter and it has been bugging me that I I dont have my man cave to build or repair stuff.

So last fall I was at a customers place checking out there refuse container(I work for garbage company) they had a 7ft table top sticking out of the dumpster, looked really nice, but what caught my eye was the 2 - 6ft strips of LED lighting under the table top with all the electronics attached, took it home and tested it and all of it worked, so I took the 2 strips off, painted 2 - 2x4s and layed caulk down and reglued the strips on the 2x4s, so I have a shed it my back yard next to my new layout with no electric in it, has pipe going to it but no wires running to it, so now my shed this spring will have new LED lighting in it.

So what to do with table top, was going to throw it away, has been in my garage all winter and am very glad never threw it away, last week just looked at it and said to my wife I am making a man cave for myself, she said go for it so here it is, was at Menards the other day and got all those plastic trays for a steal, they are free(you get rebates in the mail back) the strips they hang on are .94 cents, timing is everything got about 24 of those things, Cody liked them also had to get him some, so went outside in shed tramped through 6in of fresh snow to grab bins full of modeling stuff and just got some out today.

Feels really good to have something to work on again.

Wish I had a basement workshop, mines in the barn, and it’s highs in the teens this week

I love a workbench that looks like something is going on. My brother and I used to argue about that, since his was way too clean all the time.

But I bet he never had to look for “stuff”, eh?!

Well Tom, glad to see your new work area, and it’s already covered. A clean work bench is a sign of a sick mind!

I vow to clean the work desk but I never get round to it!

You can always rely on a post here that gives you ideas or reminds you of things you may have forgotten.

My son, who is in the building business, brought home two good, unvarnished or polished, table tops. They are in very good condition.

I think they were from a house kitchen which was being reenoveated but were probably from the kind of house where appearances count and cooked dinners do not. lol

I already affixed one to a metal table frame, replacing an older worn top. I already used this top to photograph and do a small amount of work on my Challenge project.

The other top, slightly larger, is upended in that garage awaiting a use.

This thread made me realize that during the better weather, as I prefer working outdoors, I can use this other top, when laid upon on a large plastic type garden table and work on my railroad projects. This will save damage to the garden table avoiding domestic friction.

Hans has the most organized work bench I’ve ever seen. I always endeavor to emulate but always seem to fall short!!
