Amoy station needed a bit of a face lift. The old window frames were starting to fall apart. Not real sure what I did wrong but the styrene bits and parts just started to crumble after a few years. All my other buildings don’t have this problem and they all get the same amount of sun and are painted with the same paint and made with the same styrene. The only thing I can think of is I may have used a different solvent to bond them together.
The old way that I did it was to make the frame and then put the glazing behind it. I tried a couple different things this time but settled on the most difficult.
Here’s a pic of one of the better windows.
The others are far worse…
So my first attempt was to use Clear acrylic cut to size on my handy dandy jarmac table saw.
I then used automotive pin striping to make the frames and such. They turned out looking like prison bars…
So, I remembered someone, I think Larry Mosher using a saw to score the window and paint the frames in place.
Not a fan of my results. Whoever I saw do it did a way better job and I’m sorry to discredit your work in such a way.
So, I figured I’d try to build the frame onto the glazing. That way it would have more strength and hopefully not fall apart.
Here’s the unpainted result
I like this one the best. It’s taped to be painted. It’s strong and ‘hopefully’ won’t fall apart like the others. I added the center piece to give it a bit of depth and the illusion that it’s a two piece window.
Here’s one on the building.
The frame is straight (sort of) it’s the crappy tape job that makes it look so crooked. Also looks like the building is in need of a paintjob.
