New UP Pacific with Vandy Tender

Rolled out 2861 in her new UP color scheme. Decals by Stan Cedarleaf. 2861 ran here in Nebraska and was regarded as one of the fastest Pacifics that UP had.

Nice. I always liked that style of tender.

That is very nice. I hope we get to see some video

Like I wrote on the other forum, pretty neat-lookin’ job there, Jerry.

I love Vandy tenders. In fact, if I could have one behind my SUV, I surely would.

Now listen up - we NEED videos, OK.

Any time will do. No rush, OK?

This afternoon?

Now?

Might be warm enough today to try a video.

The more I look at that the better I like it. I love the gray front to the cylinders.

Very good!
Now it needs “elephant ears.”

I did a vandy SP conversion for an LGB UP Mike for a buddy of mine. I’ll have to get a pic of it.

Here’s a video of it pulling a freight train. Ran fine for over two hours on track that had not been cleaned in quite awhile. Happy about that. Probably leave it track power. I got it to pull freight trains when I was too lazy to fire up my live steam Mikado.

Jerry, Nice video… great looking locomotive…

Great video Jerry, I also watched your Mikado evening run video and that’s great too.
I really like the long run you have on your layout. I have a question, how did you attach your track to the stone walls on your layout? I may have an opening to do an outdoor layout and am gathering ideas.

I just used some of the blue masonry screws. Drilled the holes with my hammer drill(cheapie-but LOTS faster than a regular drill!). Might put a piece of wire under the screw then put it over a tie. Track is level, so does not need many screws.

I have been having fun with my Pacific and it’s smoke unit. Sure works good. Not too used to this except for my live steamers. Pretty windy when I took these shots of it pulling my home made streamliner cars. Was better the other evening, when it was pretty calm-pretty rare in Nebraska!
