Large Scale Central

New Trolley Project

Everything G-scale is currently pulled up, primarily due to flooding here. We will be doing a new raised bed layout in the yard, but that could be some time, due to the need to do extensive flood diversion work in the yard. In the meantime, the wife asked if it would be possible to do a simple trolley line in the vaulted ceiling in our living room/kitchen. I think I know what I’m going to do.

Roughly 20’ x 5’ area to put road bed. 1x4 would work, but I’ll likely use 1x6. Screw the road bed to the tops of the beams, and lay track on the road bed. Scenic backdrops behind the trolley line.

Not easy to tell from this shot, but view of the trolley from below is actually pretty good.

I’m working on transitioning to battery power for all my locos, and this is the first. I’m looking at the PIKO bundle from RCS of NE, due to price and simplicity of installation/function. For future outdoor stuff, I’ll look at a more complex system.

Dan, so sorry to hear about your flooding and its consequences to your layout.

It’s inspiring to see your flexibility, and the great ideas you have for your ceiling layout. It will be so cool seeing the trolley run above the beams!
