New to scratch building

I just wanted to show you fellows my 2nd attempt at scratch building for my railroad, the HDRR. The water tower is my second attempt, and the engine shed behind it is my first attempt. I would not have even undertook these projects if it was not for the wonderful modelers I have encountered on this site. Y’all have endowed me with the confidence to give it a try. I read this forum all the time and pick up many great ideas from all of you. As one of you put it, “Lowes is my hobby shop” ! Thank you all.

NICE!

Good Job Joe. I don’t even have a water tank for my pike yet. It’s one on the winter over projects yet to be moved to a higher priority…

looks good!

I sometimes feel a bit intimidated by some of these guys, but it’s a great way to learn…

Nice work Joe. Pics of the engine shed.

You know it Ken. I have learned so much here, I even tried my hand at scratch building a flat car. I’ll post that photo in the Rolling stock section I guess. or maybe here , as it still is modeling…

Hey Joe - Nice work! That fence around the back of the engine shed is pretty cool too!

I like his “level” car to the left of the engine shed.

Jon, I needed the fence to deter vandals! The HDRR had to get a guard dog. His name is Rex, and he is on duty in this picture…

That's my MOW car and it works! :-)

Nice work Joe!!!
I kinda always wanted to build a water tower myself cause I think they are neat …however I have no use for one
…:)…

You need a C19 Rooster…

Sure you do. There aren't as many as interlocking towers, but there are abandoned tanks still out there.

Your track leveling device is THE BEST!!

Really follows the KISS principle!

The" Problem" is,… I wish I thought of it!!

“New to scratch building”…
there are lots of guys who need decades to get to this quality.

stay at it. you got a hand for it! will be interesting to see your future evolving to even better builds.

But you SURE know how to build one, don't'cha, Dave? ;)

(Dave is a superb craftsman who built a very large scale, fully operational water tank for a live-steamer buddy earlier this year. His build thread is around here on LSC somewhere, and well-worth the visit…)

If you ate celery and carrot sticks while railroading, a tank'd be a most convenient place to keep the salt.

Just like whenever you eat these items in bed, you have to keep the salt in your belly button.

Think about it Rooster. You need a water tower to hold the moon shine for when the Kittatinny Boys smuggle some your way. Where do you think the guys store the shine. You really think my guys need two water towers. I always thought you were smarter then that Rooster.

Nice work Joe.

I like the flat facades in the background, fan of those myself
