Welcome George.
Can’t help ya with the small yard, but there are plenty of those around with some great layouts filling them. As for input, you’ve come to the right place.

Welcome aboard Wags
Welcome George, we were out your way last weekend. Did you get to the ECLSTS?
Welcome George.
Browse through “Tracks & Trestles”. You should find a few ideas.

Welcome. You’ll find plenty of ideas here. RThat layout will just grow and grow!
George,
Do you know what type of equipment you want to run or what era you are going with? Will this be a switching layout or just a loop to watch trains run? I know you had asked about 0-27 and it can be done but I have no idea as to what track will work outside in that scale. As stated already surf the site as there is tons of great info here.
Welcome George. Grab a cup of coffee and relax. There is a world of info here to be had but be ready we ask a ton of questions as well and we love pictures.
Welcome George. My second layout is a small layout (dedicated to 7/8n2 scale trains) about that size. Its basically a reversing loop to reversing loop with only battery powered locos so no fancy wiring is needed Sketch of the track plan (top shows it unfolded)-

Careful! Garden Railroads are an invasive species. They send out runners called “track” and take over everywhere.
Suggestion: Considering the size, could your layout be adapted to run along a fence line with a loop at each end for continous running. This way it would not be seen in one glance from any single vantage point. My expereience is when a small layout is seen without any head movement, it tends to be viewed, watched for a few minutes, then there is a shift to a new topic of conversation.
Welcome aboard!
