New site

In case it got lost on you in the other thread

it looks like everything else is ready to go. Unless someone comes up with a showstopper of a problem in the next few days, I'm scheduling 1/27/13 as the morning I'll convert the site over. Starting about 7am (if I can get up that early) it should take a couple of hours.
So, this coming Sunday morning, the site will be offline for the big switch. I expect no more than a couple hours downtime, hopefully less than that.

Good luck with it :D Our system changeovers at work never go that smoothly (I speak only as an observer).

Best of luck. Are you planning on capability to fall back to the current system if things don’t go well under load?

Best of luck too, Bob… but, ummm, now how am I supposed to have my cawffee Sunday morning???

Already complaining and the new site ain't even up! Grouch! ;)

Andy, just for you I’ll put up a static image that you can read. It might only just be one thread so read slow

I've had the test site up since the middle of June. Complainers will be told to go pound sand, they had their chance.

Jon.....he would want to see a static image of his son for the few hours the site will be down!

If I have to fall back to the current software, we'll lose any posts between the time of the switch-over to the new software, and if I go back to the old. I've made no allowances to back-port any data into the existing site.

That said, this is a reminder to everyone that the site will be down Sunday morning at 7AM until I finish up. I fully expect to be spending most of Sunday working through issues, but the site itself should be operational before noon, possibly before 9AM.

Bob, for the record… Hope the switchover goes quickly and smoothly…

Thanks Bob. That fall-back scenario wouldn’t be the end of the world if it needed to happen. Better a few lost posts than no site at all.

I’m pretty sure you won’t have the loading issues I’ve seen with the cloud accounting software we use at my job. They went through a major upgrade (servers and software simultaneously) with no fall-back option at all. The system crashed under load and it took them 3 days to get back on-line. Thousands of customers not able to access their financial data. Made for some very unhappy customers

I was delighted when I posted a picture to see the ‘my files’ sorted alphabetically. Lookig forward to seeing more new stuff. Thanks!!

I’m fully expecting some odds and ends to not be 100% correct once the new site is up. Please be patient and let me know what the issues are, if any, and I’ll work through them.

Absolutely the BEST ANSWER ON ANY SUBJECT IN ANY MEDIA I've seen in ages! That's how the West was Won and how the railroads made a nation out of disconnected clusters! This embodies the spirit of Britain's Rule 8 which I see often on another large scale site.

Thank you for the forthright attitude and the FRESH AIR!

Any chance of this becoming the basis for a challenge build? I envisage:

The Annual LSC McCown Memorial
Kitbash or Scratchbuilt
MOW SANDPOUNDER
Challenge

Prize for the best build…what else? A pound of sand.

Best of luck Bob with the switch over. And all complainers can ‘go pound sand’ I agree! You give us a great site to share/vocalize our thoughts and if anyone wants to complain (and think they can do it better) they can have at it. And see if they can do better.

Thanks Bob!!! and Good Luck!
