New Site Tips

Bruce posted a few good tips in the General Forum last Sunday, but they are starting to get lost in the thread drift. I thought I’d start a thread here that hopeful will stay on topic.

Tip #1

Would you like to make your an image you post also be a clickable link? Here’s how to do it

[url=www.ectma.org]http://www.ectma.org/logo2.gif[/url]

Will produce this…

Through experimenting I found two things that differ from the old site.

1 - In the URL tag you no longer use quotes. Be sure to put the link URL inside the first URL tag after the equal sign.

2 - DO NOT use IMG tags in the forum. Pictures will not display if you use the tags.

I know I am thick with this stuff but that escapes me.

How do I make my upside down logo (http://www.rcs-rc.com/pics/Logos/chatlogo.gif)
into a clickable link to http://rcs-rc.com/ please?

Huummm…

Tony - This will work in a message, but not in your profile as the tags are treated just a bit differently. In a forum message body it would be…

[url=www.rcs-rc.com] http://www.rcs-rc.com/pics/Logos/chatlogo.gif [/url]

Will give you this…

(http://www.rcs-rc.com/pics/Logos/chatlogo.gif)

Tip #2 (copied from Bruce’s post)

If you want a clickable link in your profile signature it’s just a little different. You need the IMG tags like this…

[URL=www.[rcs-rc.com](http://rcs-rc.com/)] [img]http://www.rcs-rc.com/pics/Logos/chatlogo.gif [/img] [/url]

Thanks to Bruce Chandler for working out how to do this in your profile and how to make the code display show what he did.

Nope.
Thanks for trying.
It shows as being linked but when I click on it the website does not open.

I get

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

I tried it with and without spaces. No difference.

Tony,

The colon is missing in your url after the http. It should look like this…http://rcs-rc.com

Fixed it thanks. I had to put www.rcs-rc.com instead of http://rcs-rc.com and no spaces between brackets.

Right - the http:// screws up the interpreter and I mistakenly erased the www. The spaces I just copied from Bruce’s post. Not sure if they matter or not.

OK. Just tried it sans spaces. The spaces do NOT matter.

Good Deal. Thanks for asking me to do this 'cause I figured out some more stuff in the process.

My brain hurts even thinking about how to work out this stuff. :wink:
