Large Scale Central

New site testing

Howdy folks
If you’re the curious (or helpful) type, wander over to

http://se.largescalecentral.com

and help me give the new software a good working over. The data is current as of about 830PM tonight, 12/29. Post/comment/upload/etc. Wander around into the corners, and report any bugs or issues that you can find. Nothing posted to the development site will get reflected back here to the main site.

Its nearing completion, a couple more admin-side things and I can roll it out, unless something major shows up in this batch of testing.

Thanks
-=Bob

Bob,
It seems well organized, but a bit ‘cold’. Maybe if you kept the yellow background on the posts, like the old one has that would help. But, if the setup makes it easier for you to maintain, go for it, we’ll get used to it. Speed of your site is really nice.

I visited briefly and will return later. I did notice that the byline after post subject is truncated in a lot of cases. Could it be dropped to a second line like the current site?

A little shading works. I added a muted-down yellow-ish to the forums. Adds a bit more life

The “posts” are narrow.
The old site posts go across my entire screen. The new site has several inches of blank space on each side.
Will not make much difference with text, but photos are quite a bit smaller.
Ralph

Id rather see it take up the whole screen too. I have the same problem with my website but cant control that as its part of their code.

hmmm, my railroad article got changed into a Blog… From what I see, the new format messed up the width i had used before, and the pictures do not show…

Yea, "My RR Construction" articles I chose to put under user's own blogs, keeping articles for "How to build a.." type articles.

I see about the messed up pictures, Ill figure that out.

Fixed the broken images in your blog. Data importing issue.

Clicking on the post in “recent forum posts”…takes you to the first post and not the most recent.

Ah, good catch. Workin' on it...

Fixed

I think it looks darn good… Nice work.,

The only thing I didn’t see is who is on line and who was not. That was kind of nice.

Curious, I see every post I checked with a picture was perfect…except mine. Not the end of the world, but every picture I posted shows the dreaded red “X” and a link. Will there be no more posting from off-site locations like Photobucket?

Curious too about the new narrow page width, I guess I will just need to enlarge for the new site.

Good luck!

Honestly I find the light blue topic headers hard to read, especially on my smartphone. Can the headers be darker or bold typeface?

Update, found other posts with Photobucket links, those pics do not show either.

I don’t know…sometimes it works right for me, and sometimes it doesn’t.
So far, not seems to be winning about 3 to 1.

Hi Bob
having the current site and the new site open side by side in different windows, the current site seems to be easier to read, the type on the new site seems washed out or pale. The text could possibly be a darker grey or black and the blue could be darker.
Mick

Bob, the 1st few posting on this thread, http://se.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/17745/crown-willamette-paper-co-3-to ,lack the pics yet the pics show up further into the thread on page one.Other threads also have this occurring.

Also you seem to have missed the (Home , Forums , Whichever links on the bottom of the pages.Between the present Subscribe to this Topic and Post Reply

Check out this page, http://se.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/16929/bachmann-connie-bash-thread-pos/view/page/2 , about 1/3rd of the way down.Between Matthew(OV) and Barry Olsen

This thread misses the authors pics, http://se.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/17594/in-ko-pah-railroad-scratch-bui/view/page/3 , but the repliers pics show up just fine

This is using Windows XP and FireFox. I should add that I like the layout and the larger font size used. All in all a nice improvement. Thank you for the upgrade.

as others already mentioned, the new site is harder to read, the letters are kind of washed out.

on one of my own posts i noticed, that the pics of a widtht of 800 pixel (799 to be exact) are all cut off at the right side.

Yep, the import script is messing up photobucket URLs for some reason. Thanks for the pointer to a thread I can test with.

Will work on the colors a bit more, too. And see what I can do about the width in the forums, maybe squash the left hand user info box a bit.
