Dave, what the chat software CAN DO, and which features Bob ENABLES the chat software to do are entirely different subjects. I would be good with just keeping a chat room open like we currently have. Any of the other features are purely a bonus.
Somewhere I read that folks would like the chat to be only maintained for 24 hours. I think that is a bit short as we have folks that on occasion cannot get to immediately review a chat session they missed. I agree for server space, deleting chat history is not all bad, but I think a week is a better time frame.
FWIW

That is exactly what I asked BD. What features he was thinking of including.
re: Rumbletalk. I will keep the feature set as limited as possible. I will allow the uploading of pictures. I may, on special occasions, turn on the video chat. Everything else seems like so much extra cruft that really doesnt apply to LSC.
Progress continues. I think have everyone with a bronze/silver/gold plan tagged correctly. I have a bunch of the Saturday-morning tasks queued up already so all I need to do is make some changes in configuration files. Advertisers and forum sponsors are giving me a bit of a puzzle, but I have workarounds for them if necessary.
Close!
BD, I have noticed a small irritation that gets me every now and again. The updates icon at the top of the page, will the new site have this feature?, if so can we make it consistant, when you click on it the drop down menu has “view all” on the left and “mark as read” on the right. if you click on the “view all” , the “mark as read” is now on the left and the “view more” is on the right, I am sure its my problem only but I have clicked on the wrong button and “marked as read” many times instead of view more. My little complaint/ issue. Look forward to an all shiny new site.
The new posts/unread posts tracking is different than what is on this package. There is essentially two tabs, one with completely new threads, the other with unread posts in, I think, threads you have been reading. They both have a distinct “Dismiss” button, which is their language for “yep, I’m good”
Status update: Advertisers are showing as expected. I have resized the server to its hopefully final configuration. Looks like forum sponsors are going to have to be a text-only link, but jury is still out on that.
Continued testing. Everything still looking good.
Terms of Service, FAQ, and Privacy Policy will be MIA until I can get around to them. I’ve pre-loaded the mail server setup, so that should work fairly quickly once the DNS changes happen.
Getting close.

so what?
good enough for me.
OK, getting closer. I have a lot of the prerequisite setup done, or ready for me to hit the “GO” button. So let’s talk about a couple features.
Discourse doesn’t have separate “Forums,” but instead, you put a post into a category. Or more than one category. Which means you can put a post in both Modeling and Rolling Stock, and looking at each category, it will show up. I like that, because there is sometimes a grey area when you are posting something. “Its a tank car, but modeling, too.” kind of thing.
Individual topics dont have pages, but instead the post does the ‘infinite scroll’ thing where you can go up and down through the topic. On the right side is a slider that shows where you are in relation to the start and stop of the thread, and you can use that as you would any slider.
As mentioned in a post above, pictures are insanely easy to put into a post.

Sounds good Bob. Thanks for all the work! (I really like the INSANE part! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif))
Oh, and a note that may have been missed. Private Messages will not be carried over, due to the way that this software stores them. So if you have ones you want to save, save em now.
By the time we figure all this new stuff Bob will be updating again …(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
I hope he’ll have an area to ask or report problems…

Thanks, Bob.
More minor progress. Email sending has been tested and is working. One more thing checked off the list. There’s really only one more thing I can do before the changeover, so I think I’m as ready as we can ever be.
OK, we’re as ready as we can ever be. Last night I did the final setup of everything I can set up beforehand, and ran the importer again. It’s go time.
The order of operations is roughly:
Bob, I’m putting my seatbelt on hoping for a smooth ride. Thanks for all your hard work.

The order of operations is roughly:
- Sometime between 7 and 8 tomorrow morning, I will verify that things went as expected and the new site is answering on largescalecentral.com, I will turn on emailing, and that email is working.
- I have a bunch of post-email settings to change at this point.
- I will start chatter in the Slack channel for those that have offered to test.
- Testers will walk through the password recovery process to verify it works. We will test other things TBD.
- I will change the header banner to some kind of welcome message.
- Site open?
