New site features

Howdy
I’m planning my attack on the site code for the next few months, and here’s some various things I think would be good to add. Let me know if you like, or dislike, the ideas, and also what else should I add.

Spell-check in Chat and Forums message window

Re-write articles submission area

Re-write reviews area

Auto-expiration notifications,etc for Freight Sheds

Photo gallery changes:
-Photo ratings
-Edit photo description
-Misc ‘metadata’ about photo. Link to submitter’s profile, etc
-Categories for photos (steam loco, diesel, freight trains, passenger trains, people, buildings, gardens, layouts)

Fix the webring code

Added:
Fix ‘last read’ flag code for speed

Anything else?

Bob,

Can you reactivate the members listing with links to their profiel, homepage and email??

Andre’

Thats easy…

DONE!

Though it needs dressing up a bit…

Great work Bob,
Thank’s for reactivating the profile list that I asked about last April 13, I guess I wasn’t to clear with my request like Andre was. I also feel that the SPELL-CHECK is a GREAT thing for US bad spellers.
Happy Railroading,
Ron

Bob,
Can you speed up “Mark all topics as read.”
Even with my high speed, it takes forever to do this.
jb

Good catch, John, I had forgotten about that. Thats in the works with the “last read” flag, since they’re related.

Bob

How about a marker that lets one jump to the most recent post in a thread?? Or am I missing something??

To clear the new tag, you have to visit ALL the pages of the thread, not just the last page, where the new post is. Sure would be nice to fix this.

Regards, Greg

Yea, thats part of the whole new tag rewrite. It’ll fix this, too.

Bob -

I don’t know how many would like to have this, but a nice feature to add would be the ability to jump directly to another forum, without navigating back to the index. I’ve seen this done with links, or as a pull-down on other boards.

Of course you can do this in the browser now by setting up a favorite using the direct URL of each forum.

Thanks again for your on-going efforts to make this a place we can all feel at home.
