New RR lawn decoration

Here is a pic of my newest RR related yard decor. While the garden RR is in our front yard water garden, I didnt think the neighbors would approve of this out there. So for now I have it clamped to the fence with about 6 huge hose clamps. Once I find a proper base casting for the pole, then I will pour a regular foundation for it. It is flashing in this pic, thus only one lamp lit. We think it came from the Erie RR in Rochester PA. The old darn thing is cast iron. I spent the last two days repainting it and hooking up the flasher unit. The owner was a retired police officer and he got ahold of a flasher unit for traffic lights, basily a motor driven cam lobe that changes 2 contact strips. It has about the right flash rate on 6vt power. RR bulbs are 9vt and look to bright on 12vt anyway. Cheers Mike

Way cool. Let’s hope the wind doesn’t knock down your fence…

Awesome! I wish I could get ahold of one of those.

I have two working bells…

There are 4 sets of crossing lights down the street from me, just laying there, from when they replaced the lights a couple of years ago. Im REALLY tempted to grab em.

I have a double direction set and the pole caps along with several cross bucks the guys with the Nashville and Eastern gave me after a day of hanging out with them on a crossing job. Now all I need is the pole and it is a standard item.

Join the RR Signaling Yahoo group ([email protected]) if you’re interested in signals. Lots of guys refurbishing signals, and occasionally parts for sale.

I plan to mount it with a proper base and foundation soon, this is just temporary. The fence pole is in concrete and the whole set up doesnt wiggle any more than a real one does at the crossings. I wont add the second pair of lights till its mounted properly though
Mike

Excellent! Now all you need is a caboose to park next to it… I’m sure the neighbors won’t mind.
