New Reality TV Show

While flipping through the channels last evening I came to the realization that there is not a whole lot on TV worth watching anymore. Everything now seems to be reality television – a misnomer if there ever was one. Nothing in any of these programs even remotely seems real. Even the Weather Channel has gone over to the dark side with their reality series about fat guy in the woods and ice road truckers.

Maybe the time is ripe for us to gain a little notoriety for the idiosyncrasies we exhibit while playing with our toys. If the posts and responses here on this site are any indication, we definitely have a few interesting characters among us. Those guys with the duck calls got nothin’ we ain’t got.

I can see the pilot taking shape now – the “Steam Dummies vs. the Diseasels” episode. Then, of course, there’s the episode where the concrete roadbed guys fight it out with the lattice guys to see which roadbed survives. Then the raised platform versus the ground level guys in a fight to the finish. Don’t miss the week when the sparkies take on the battery guys. Or when the exact scalers take on the tinplaters.

You get the idea, right? We’ve got enough drama to last for several seasons. Plus, we might even get a few converts along the way.

Any producers out there? How about it? Make us all stars!

I am not sure I want to be on national TV talking to a project that just doesn’t seam to wanna come together. Nor do I want to be quoted as saying ANYTHING from what could be mistaken as speaking from a position of authority or great knowledge. I prefer to be “that crazy guy neighbor, who plays with trains in his backyard”. Thanks anyway.

I think it would be very divisive ; just go along and listen to some of the gargling idiots at shows whose very existence depends on being the sole correct mouthpiece of which scales , qualities , companies , model makers are the criteria on which we make our stuff—you name it , there is always some winker who wants to be controversial (an argumentative sod) and would quickly make the effort of displaying all the good qualities of the hobby come to nought .

I refer of course to the rivet counting foamers who wouldn’t know a rivet if they sat on it . It would be very difficult to filter out such nutters .

Then add to that the need to get someone “famous” to present the show as though they know all about model railways , like Whoopie Goldberg or Oprah Winfrey . And then the need for famous guest presenters who would be equally ignorant but have a story about being too poor to have a train set ----that would be interesting .

Nah . Nice idea on the face of it but fraught with problems----unless they could afford Rod Stewart who has a superb train set .

I rest my case , yer onner .

Mike, oh so you know that guy too? I was actually kind of glad when he got fed up with our little group and dropped out. Of course, I know in his mind, its all our fault he quit.

Dropped out!!! I thought that our benevolent dictator booted the guy, he didn’t have the forthwith to know that he was unwanted here by the masses.

The Geezer channel, only the guys on it would watch…

The host would need the delicate touch, methinks a Red Green clone would set the somber tone.

Remember these are Big Boy toys!

Im not a fan of the reality shows but Alaska Railroad, Alaska State Police, Mountain Men, life below 0 and the one about conservation officers are some of the better ones I like to watch.

Dave, I wasn’t talking about this happy little group. I was talking about another group I belong to. One time he so degraded me and my efforts I almost quit that group. This is a hobby after all, and I don’t have to put up with feces.
