Large Scale Central

New project - '10'-wheeler

Decided to progress existing build. This is meant to represent a narrow-gauge ‘10-wheeler’ brought into the 20th centrury, post 1901-. Boiler has been modified with a cylindrical section added forward of the sanding dome, thus lengthening the drive by about one inch. Other ‘modern’ features such as steel cab, electric lighting and superheater extended smokebox are added. This project is made from parts left over from previous builds and is basically a spare parts loco.

Nice! And glad to see the other catastrophe didn’ totally discourage you for long!

Mik,
as the old saying goes, “no use crying over spilt milk”. I have too many projects underway to let a catastrophe get me down. This afternoon, I scrounged the garbage bin and retreived the damaged body of the artic. I cut off the forward section for future use and disposed the rear damaged section (alas, the part with the most work involved in construction). Maybe another artic in the future (the drives are useless for anything else)?

Well, another projectm finally completed (only started about five years ago!). Centre axle is flanged. About one-half inch removed aft of pressure dome and about one and a quarter inch added forward of sand dome. Drive chassis and connecting rods extended to suit. Idea was to capture the look orf the old ‘ten-wheelers’ but with a narrow-gauge slant. Donor tender for photograph. As it is a spare parts locomotive, the cylinders and guides are from a Heritage Express/Buddy ‘L’, modified to fit. Rods extended with rectangular brass tubing.
