A few years back I made a station from cedar wood for my LA&C RR. The station itself has held up well but the platform/base has not. Luckily when I made it I made the platform removeable. I like the real wood look but it just isn’t working and i don’t want to spend every other weekend repairing the station.
So, out with the old old and in with the new. I picked up a couple pieces of vinyl garage door molding that measured 5 3/4" wide and 5/8" thick. It’s ‘supposed’ to be rot proof warp proof and UV protected, we shall see. I cut the pieces to length & ripped one to get the right width. On the bottom I routed some channels to put some flat aluminum stock I had in for support and screwed the whole thing together with brass screws.
The finished platform:
It will get painted brown and also get some support braces on the top once the station is placed.
