Well the paint shop and our head painter Fred T from Ohio came thru again for us with these 2 new CSX M.O.W. units. Ive wanted some Orange units for some time, so I finally pulled the trigger and sent Fred some new units to repaint. Now all that needs to be done is they need to be remotored and kadees installed along with some final detail work and they will be set to go into service. Nicky

Ralph, As with most New Aristo GP 40’s there were MAJOR issues with the motor blocks being defective, These 2 locos each pulled a little less that 5 amps by themselfs. Aristo sent me new motors already as they new there were problems. To Navins credit i had the replacements in a day of talking to him. so i just needed to install them when i received the units back from Fred. Greg E and Ted D have done the full research into the issues so i just use there website as a Guide to replacing them. I also have 3 other units to do as well. I sold all the 1st run units and bought all 2nd run Burlington units to try to avoid these issue, But these units are no different than the 1st run. Nick Teds article on Gregs web site. http://www.elmassian.com/trains-mainmenu/motive-power-mods-aamp-tips-mainmenu-35/aristo-motive-power-mainmenu-72/gp-40/gp40-motor-replacement

If they KNEW, then it woulda been smarter of them to remotor them before sending them to the distributors, or to recall them before they ended up in the hands of the public.
If they didn’t know, then whoever is/was in charge of QC should be out of work.
Expecting the consumer to beta test your product is short sighted stupidity.
Mik-
You are on-target with your conclusion consumer beta testing is “short sighted and stupidity.” Prior to your contributing to Large SCALE Central, consumers beta testing was THE big discussion point after the Bachmann series of loco quality gaffs – that were so obvious to anyone who opened one up. Aristo had similar problems. The explanation canard was the manufacturer in China was the bad guy in the story – they screwed up (literally) the assembly process. So there were no testing products pulled from a short production run. In a word “NO”. Reason: “Too expensive.” I got that response from someone who was there to hear it.
Meanwhile, Nicholas (above) reports the first run of locos from Aristo with a motor problem repeats the problem with their second run of the same loco. Hmmmmm. Now what? Efforts to discover a first from a second run appear to be valued simply for the fun of doing it.
Back to Quality One ethics discussion and manufacturer trust.

I’ve been told that there is a cultural trait of the Chinese to see how far they can bend a contract to their own advantage without actually breaking it. It’s regarded as being ‘clever’. – They can make quality stuff, or cheap and cheerful, depending upon how your write the contract, and what standards you hold them to…
Add that to the American MBA’s “next quarter’s profits is all that matters” attitude, and you have a recipe for total junk.
But it’s so much cheaper than LGB was… and low price uber alles, right?
I can’t wait to see all those engines running on ,his ,layout…
Nice looking locos. I model 1st generation locos, but I know a great job when I see it. Like the detail especially the small USA flag on the cab.
Hmmmmmmmm Its seems a few of the Players believe these paint schemes to be fake… Are you out of your freekin Minds ? I do real, not Fakey…Shud Up
