New logging caboose kitbash

Well I finally finished my logging caboose. It is going with the HLW flats, Bach box car and the Big John. The Caboose is a Bachmann logging caboose. I re-did the roof by using masking tape and overlaping it. (give it that tar paper look) I took all the plastic rails etc… off and made new ones out of metal wire, they did not come perfectly straight but Im going for that backwoods look anyeway. I also repainted the caboose and added some wood to the steps and walking areas. I covered the windows with clear plastic I had laying around. I still have to make a ladder and add some lights to the back. Here it is: Before

now

I also got decals on my porter

My new Mack HLW

Looks good! I’d suggest getting the window defogger working on that Mack before taking it out on the line, though.

Later,

LOL ya i wondered why HLW would put those windows on. (It fits the current weather when I took the shot) I have a some clear plastic that I used on the caboose left over. Will have to replace the mack windows with it.

I painted my “Thommy Mack” windows with grey primer to prevent seeing the batteries and all that I hurriedly tossed in to finish in time for a Birthday!

Shawn, your stuff is/has been looking great…I think it all kinda began to come together with the repaint of the porter! You do good work for a sick man!

I’ll be taking in one of those same porters tomorrow in trade, then I guess I’ll have to paint it too!

cale

oh yeah, the caboose looks much better w/o that frame thing on the bottom!!

Nice work again Shawn. Thanks for posting it!

You will be very happy with that porter. Works and looks great with the HLW mini log cars. Im in the process of making a small tender for my porter. Just taking a HLW flat ad making it into a wood gondola and then just puting small logs into it. Simple plan

Shawn,
Once again I feel you take pretty darn good pictures! Wish i was that good with the camera and surroundings/settings

Thanks the one thing i learned is you have to be at ground level. Also dont be afraid to take alot of pictures of one scene. Then keep only what looks good. I will take one scene and shoot it at different angles, zooms etc..... There are many times I take 20 shots and not like any. Lighting makes a hudge difference as well. Thats what i love about digital cameras you dont have to worry about wasting film.

You got me to thinking…I have one of those too. I may do to it what I did to this one…just add trucks .

Trucks will really make it look good, hmm now you got me thinking :-]

Shawn keep up with the good work and pics!!

Shawn, Here’s what I had in mind. Couplers need to be raised and the endbeams built and I might lower it some more. I’ll have to re-do the steps for that, but this is the basic idea.

I like it. You should also throw some masking tape on the roof. It really makes a difference and adds to the look. Is that a work caboose behind the picture? That looks like a nice one. Im thinking about building one with a bachmann flat car.

The work caboose I built to hold the R/C and Batteries for the B’mann 2-4-2T engine I have. It hasn’t been converted yet, just an on/off switch to get it running. Just holds the batteries for now.

Got some more done on the caboose last nite. Wooden end beans, NBW castings, lowered the trucks and added decking. As soon as the batteries recharge in the camera I’ll post some pix of what it looks like so far. Have to re-do the railings and cut out the coupler pocket, add the brake wheel and small stuff like that. Haven’t decided about lamps on the back end yet…

Shawn, after getting a better look at Accu’s new waycar, I actually took the Cupola off my Bloody L caboose added a sheet of styrene roof to make a waycar like it and your B’mann. Still need to add an interior and some extra details but it does look nice I also did similar to Kens conversion to an LGB Toytrain caboose:

And I attempted to salvage a crappy Scientific caboose by adding trucks under it , so far so good but its a work in progress, no pics as yet.

That would look great on my layout :-]
