New loco - 'IG' - what else?

Afternoom, folks! Here is the very first run of the VBR’s latest loco, the AccuCraft 16mm ‘Edrig’ running as ‘IG’ [what else?’ I just happened to have a set of brass number plates lying around [riiiiiight] and saw instantly how ‘Edrig’ could become ‘IG’.

No doubt as we get used to running it I’ll be more confident about turning the gas down a mite - it seemed to have no hassle hauling those two pretty heavy cars. We bought it used-paw from Steve Warrington at back2bay6 here in UK on our way over to Chester Zoo last Saturday 12th August, and as some of you know, we were up in North Yorkshire at the annual Alfa-Romeo weekend the very next day and had no time to run on Saturday evening [it was dark, anyhow]. ’

Nice video. I like the balast used with the elevated track.

That is probably the smarter option!

Thanks, Shawn. It kind of finishes the track off, to my way of thinking.

'Cors, with having such a small track, it’s not a problem.

Our daughter, who was fifteen years younger when we built the original layout, is a wheelchair-user, and the track had to be at a certain minimum height where the ground level was flattest so that she could handle her trains on and off the track without using a crane. Fortuitously, that was also down by the house where the ‘patio’ is located - the difference in ground level between the nearest and furthest points is 20 inches in less than 25 feet.

Nice. And a great name too!

Well, to tell the truth I was not actually looking for a new loco, but this one turned up in the display case with a stupid price-tag, just serviced and with a fitted leather carrying case, too - all for less than half the price of a new one. BTW, the AccuCraft name of this model is ‘Edrig’ so calling it ‘IG’ was really a no-brainer. It has joined my other 16mm locos - the SAR Garratt and the Welshpool Countess.

With my Floridian pal, Broos, we do the rounds of the local schools up on the base, scouts and guides, local village fetes and so on with as big a demo track set-up as we can manage. It’s usually in or near a village hall, so there are often at least twelve good-sized folder tables to use for setting up a double track. One is electramacated, and the other left au naturel so we can run steamies on it. Nothing too big - we don’t want to over-awe the locals with technology, do we?

It’s a chance for lots of people to see something they’ve never seen before. Here yUK, almost nobody has EVER seen any of the usual US/Can geared logging locos, and we have all of them by Bachmann and two by AccuCraft. I often drag out a Royal Hudson and a German pacific or two and a few cars, so folks can see Gauge 1, and then my AccuCraft K27 running on rollers, as well as a couple of Dash 9 - all with sound - also on rollers.

Even the SAR Garratt gets a run so long as we ease the bends somewhat.

A great time is often had by all/most.

Spreading the word, is what it’s all about, friends…

Whooooooooo! WTH is going on in the ether?

EVERY one of my 155 favourite websites has asked me to register as a new user…or to log in, and most don’t recognise me when I do.

It’s really me, folks, honest!

…and ig, too, of course.

and the boys.

Doing any upgrades just before this happened?

Ah, right.

Don, it was our new pc that might have done it, eh?

anyhow…‘IG’ the engine now sports real regulator and gas control valve handles, courtesy of Cliff down in the state whereof we do not speak.

By the middle of September it will have an air pump, feedwater pump, a few add-ons like jacks and re-railers, lamp irons and working lamsp, a couple of tool-boxes, rakes and pokers and sundry other tools and coal rails filled with real Welsh coal from real Wales. And an engineer figure too, if I can find one that looks Welsh - ie, damp and miserable.

Could be an Orygoonian, too, of course, 'specially from around Tillamook.
