Hello Clubs - To share with your members
Mick Spilsbury- GR News Webmaster & Social Media Director of the new & improved GR News contacted me a couple weeks ago for assistance with their new section on “How-To” videos. I love what they are doing to help us, so I agreed. Mick said how-to videos are more popular than ever, and that nowadays people prefer them over articles, especially the younger crowd. GR News started out as the online version of Garden Railways magazine after they stopped paper publishing a few years ago. New digital versions of that magazine will no longer be published. Instead, it has now morphed into a bigger and better organization. It’s a free website open to all. I predict it will become a primary go-to resource for our hobby. Their goal is to assist us in just about everything and to promote the hobby by giving us info on suppliers, how-to and educational videos & articles, useful links, buyers & sellers, clubs, tech info, etc.
Yesterday, GR News premiered the new How-To Articles Edition #1 and asked me to share it with you. GR News Edition #1 consolidates previously published how-to articles from Garden Railway Magazine making them easier to find. It contains 5 How-To articles from 5 different clubs. An introductory article explains the transition from ‘Garden Railroading News’ to ‘Garden Tracks’. The 28 editions of ‘Garden Railroading News’ produced between 2000 & 2026 are still available in the ‘Magazine Archive’ on the GR News website:

This is just the beginning of the how-to editions. I believe more articles and videos will be added as they find and audition them. Unfortunately, how-to videos are in short supply. Us old guys need to start making videos of our work! Mick said they want more. So, if any of you have or know of any how-to videos, please pass links on to Mick Spilsbury <[email protected]> for reviewing. Mick’s a good guy, very knowledgeable and motivated. I hope this helps you. - especially if you are planning on building something.- John Carmichael
