New from the Borracho Locomotive Works

Just finished this one, my version of the Simplex armored trench locomotive aka the Tin Turtle. These were built to haul ammo and supplies to the front lines in WW1, then found there way to many diverse small railroads across Britain, this is styrene over a Lionel handcar drive.

Looks super, Vic. Very realistic.

Are you going to use it as a post-war industrial loco on the BSR, or do you have a WWI scene planned for the layout or a pizza? I ask because a front lines trench war pizza might be pretty unique & interesting.

Love the various Simplex locomotives. Want to make a tin turtle myself one day.

I haven’t thought that far ahead. I really don’t have room for another pizza. Maybe one of these days.

This looks amazing, Vic! If you don’t mind, how did you go about the weathering? I particularly like the look of the paint underneath the lettering. (Weathering is not something I’ve explored yet, so please, forgive my lack of knowledge.)

Hi John I use a dry brush technique, it’s kinda hard to describe. I put a little paint on the brush , then spackle it on a paper towel the spackle the model. It’s a lot of back and forth and I usually end up with more paint on the paper towel. I generally use 2 to 3 colors depending on the models base color, brown for rust, grey for grime, and black for soot, oil and grime. If the base is black, i use a lighter dust color like tan. Then spray Matte Medium for a flat coat. I might come back with gloss black for fresh oil or clear coat for water. Once you learn it you can be quite economical with the paint. Just a little weathering adds a lot to the realism.

Once again, I could fly out there just to kick your ass!! That thing is sick and I kinda want one!!

I wanna see a video of it running on the Pizza layout …kinda like a “Road Warrior” unit. You need Beaker on the front of it !!

Gosh Rooster;

I think it would look great shoving the B&GRR train protection vehicle (aka Balrog Catcher).

Have Fun, David Meashey

If a WWI trench warfare pizza is too uncomfortable, I’ll suggest a Mad Max or Total Recall pizza. With a vertical switch-elevator between track levels, the lowest being underground and nasty, the others being aboveground and nastier.
