Thanks Timmy - Those instructions are clear enough for me.
I know your trying to help, and partially I’m just bustin’ your chops, but HTF do you guys get Clear Cache out of that??? Sure, that folder might technically be the cache, but HSM; how is anyone that’s not technically oriented going to figure that out?
Just so ya know; I’ve been using personal computers since you had to write your own code for Z-80’s and store it on cassette tape. My friends wrote machine language in binary directly into a simple PC using 8 on/off switches and an enter button as the keyboard. I’ve done tech support and am currently the IT Director for a real estate developer. Not saying I know more than you; just that I’m familiar with this stuff.
Back to your instructions - I followed them and got a warning wanting to know if I was sure I wanted to delete the cookies. I said no, because that’s one of the reasons I resist this quick fix unless nothing else works. Log-ins to many of the sites I use for work are kept in cookies, and I effen hate looking up logins in a book.
Thanks for putting up with my BS.
He Mikey - Did ya get all those acronyms? I mighta made a few up :o
JR
Oh yeah - You read the “never mind” in the second message, right? The problem went away and I think Ric actually figured out the cause. I was opening only the last page and someone edited a post on a previous page.
Yup… I saw the “never mind”… the page was cached
Clearing the cache, empty the cache, dumping the cache are both common terms in the industry and computer world. If you are dead set on not including the dumping (clearing) your cookies along with your cache then the next best thing to do is to:
- Open the Browser (it’s actually best to not open the browser to do this but rather to right click on the IE desktop icon with the browser closed. However a number of people either delete the IE icon from the desktop. Or, after deleting it put it back as a shortcut so you can’t right click on it to preform this function. Thus, the instructions here are with the browser open)
- Click TOOLs
- Click INTERNET OPTIONS
- Click the DELETE FILES button
- Put a check mark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT
- Click OK
- Click OK
As I am sure you are aware as you are the techy type as you say, that not clearing your cookies as well periodically also opens the door and leaves you prone to Spyware, Malware etc. I am guessing then that you must have a “ton” of logins that you must remember in order to not wanting to delete your cookies. I also have a ton of logins. However, I delete my cookies and clear my cache on a regular basis… sometimes multiple times a day.
NP on the BS
PS: the website also barfed on me when attempting to reply to this post, which kicked me out and required that I relog back in. It has been doing that lately. Bob should take a look at that.
