Man does that look good. Keep us up to date!
Gotta say you have me thinking of constructing some buildings! Nice!
Shawn… Hellooooo… I dont see a single stud and blocking anywhere? Don’t think that the building inspector will sign off on that thing.

Haha rumor has it the building inspector is being supplied some of that good ol moonshine. As long as the flow keeps coming the inspector looks the other way. You didnt hear that from me.
From what hear the inspector owned the stills.
Looks great Shawn. I also used a cutoff disk in my Dremel. Then I switched to my Rotozip with a Metal cuoff wheel and it went a lot faster. I used the metal cutoff wheel instead of the Masonry one, because the metal wheel had a thiner profile.
Stone looks real nice Shawn. I think you have the colors just right.
How bout some details on the wash you used to color it?

Top secrete.
I started out using Appel Barrel country gray. I mixed it with water I did a medium wash with the gray over all the block. While the block was still wet I dry brushed the Folk Art burn umber overtop the gray. I did some areas darker then others. This is where you have to play. Once everything is dry I added a heavy black wash using folk art again. Again play around using heavier coats and lighter coats. Letting it soak into all the cracks real good. The final touch was adding the Apple Barrel leaf green. I just dry brushed this on. This is what really brought everything together. You want the green to be heavier on any part that would be west or north faceing or in shade.
Are you going to grout the joints ? On my bridge piers outside the one that did not get grouted has some loose stones after two seasons outside and the stones i grouted are looking great. The weak spot on this sheet stone beining outside is the mesh net and the glue used to attach it. If you dont grout the cracks it will come loose from the mesh. Just an observation from my own installation. The foundation looks great i like the moss idea.
I wasnt planning on grouting it. I would think grouting those small cracks would make me loose patience Lol. My plan is as stone comes loose from the mesh (if it does) Ill just reglue. I did use alot of glue, enough that it oozed out of the cracks etc…
Shawn thats cool. If anyone using this stone wants to grout just use the premixed grey or brown and smear it on with your fingers into the cracks. Then take a wet sponge and clean off the exess grout its easy to do and doesnt trash the looks of the stone. Just a suggestion your build is looking good.
Good info Dan…thanks for the heads up…Shawn I’m interested to see how the Apple Barrel collors hold up outdoors continuously…i use them for all sorts of stuff, just never thought of them for an out door application…

Dan maybe I will give it a try if its easy. I have the grout already.
Bart I have been using the apple barrel and folk art for a few years, even outdoors. Never had an issue especially if you spray a clear coat over it. My depot is barn red using the same and no sign of fading.
I took Dan’s advise and grouted the stone. It was much easier then I thought. After grouting I just went over with a black wash again and redid the green.
The last few weeks I got caught up working on the Forney and then the Steamup over the weekend.
Today I got the siding on using cedar. Next I have to sand everything along the edges and then add the windows and frames.
Im using CO. Model windows since I have a bunch around. Just have to paint them first.
Lookin’ real good Shawn!
Is it done yet?
Looking really good so far Shawn. I’m really linkin’ that stone.

I had that issue. The lowes I normal use in PA does not have them. But the next close Lowes has them. Funny how each Lowes can be different. Thats like I hear a lot of people saying the spruces are on sale for end of season. Around here they dont go on sale. They reuse them for the next season.
Jon the stone is great. Cant wait to make some retaining walls with it
