New Deck Girder Bridge for Indian Hill

Not long after my last post on this thread I lifted the new bridge again and brought it inside for lettering. Then life got in the way, and it has sat inside nearly the entire summer effectively putting my railroad out of service.

Thanks to extreme heat and oppressive humidity I hid indoors all weekend. Needing something productive to do I finished the lettering and a few minor repairs. It’s all back together and ready once again for install. Just over 13 months since the project started :open_mouth:

Assuming the weather cooperates I will re-install it tomorrow and grab some pictures.

John, I can’t wait to see it.

Ya, life gets in the way sometimes. And this week has been rather brutal for the heat and humidity.

Your bridge looks great John . Don’t feel bad it took me a year to decal a freight car.

If its any consolation, last week didn’t see the high side of 80 F, here in beautiful Deer Park.

Nice work Jon. I’m waiting on letters (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Wait no longer Dave…

If I had it to do over I would layout the lettering for best view from the path rather then centered on the span. I change it in 10 years when it needs repainting :smirk:

It looks very good Jon. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Looks great, Jon!

Nice job!!!

Looks great Jon!

Wow John now that looks very good, the lettering has come out nice.

Dennis

that bridge looks very nice.

one question does it not get pressed down by the weight of trains?

Thanks all (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Nope. That is some seriously heavy thick wall aluminum tube under the details…

Korm, we’ve never met, but I’m no lightweight. If I had the balance, I could walk across the 8 foot unsupported span and it wouldn’t budge.

Jon,

Caught up and reviewed this thread this morning. Great look! Like all your work, nicely done and well documented. Yeah, you might make your fortune on a you tube video of you tight rope style walking across that. Something to consider.

Looks good Jon. Now I have to get my myself up their to run.

I need to find the track again. Been neglected for over a month and it’s a mess. hope to get the MOW crew motivated this weekend.

Very nice!

I can’t believe Indian Hill Bridge has been out there over 3 years and survived through three winters.

It suffered a bit of damage from clumsy me while moving a bunch of materials to clear our patio and walks to be repaired. I didn’t lift my foot high enough and caught the deck tearing it loose from the girder at 4 of the attachment points. The ties that were screwed down stayed in place tearing loose from the guard rails and the rest of the deck. An easy glue and pin fix, but other items need addressing, so I lifted the bridge last weekend. The deck was removed for repair while the beam was cleaned up ready for re-attachment of several of the styrene parts. It will also get some paint touch up and maybe some weathering.

Film at 11 (tomorrow).
