New Caboose on the Regal's J&B line

Fellas wanted to share with you a picture or two of the new Bachmann Long Caboose with the Flying Rio Grande logo, i received this week!! Retailers are out of stock and they are telling me this is the most popular of all the versions!! It came packaged excellently, and I was totally satisfied with what i had when I opened up the box. Thanks to Noel, I rotated the rear marker lights so there are red/amber to the back and the front and green on the side. I believe he stated they ran red/amber on all sides. There are an extra set of couplers and lights in sealed pkgs which I have not opened as yet. Also has a double aa battery compartment under the bunk so you can run lights on battery, or track power with the switches underneath, and also battery/dcc/dc switch also. Here is a picture of caboose and then one of it with my recently restored K-27 engine. It does almost match color wise with the Bachmann D&RG boxcar behind the engine. The Regal

You can view this intro on my live site in last nites impromtu video with Noel myself and friends http://www.livestream.com/crazytrainguyschannel

Jerry, Congratulations on your railroad’s new acquisition. And certainly not to steal your thread, but to compliment it and the fine piece of equipment you purchased. One of the first questions I had was how will it look, with what I already have? I had a chance to look at one of these up close and personal during the Canadian Invasion at the KVRwy, last week. One of the guys picked one up at RLD Hobbies and we were able to get some shots of the cabooses (vans, since it is owned by a Canadian) together. The two cabeese we compared the new 1:20.3 Bachmann with is a Bachmann 1:22.5 EBT Caboose and the other is an LGB Drover Caboose. Personally, I think the Bachmann Caboose was fine, the LGB Drover Caboose was a little narrow, but otherwise fine. Here are some photos.

Wouldn’t it make sense that a “suitable for G-Gauge” crummy would be a bit narrower than a 1:20.3 crummy???

True Steve. But in my specific and totally accurate scale (to me) of 1:21.4 (that’s exactly half way between 1:20.3 and 1:22.5), I wanted to see and know how it would fit.

Ric, Mind if I show my ignorance and ask of your accurate scale and why others use 1:20.3

Makes sense. Most seem to prefer the era of D&RGW narrow gauge when they used the “flying” logo. I had a feeling this caboose would be an instant hit for Bachmann. Model Railroader Product of the year perhaps?..that is if Model Railroader still does this.

Yes, for your version (flying Rio Grande), the markers should be red to the rear and amber on the remaining sides. They should look like the markers on this 1:22.5 kitbash I made out of a USA woodside caboose:

Thanks Matt, the ones provided with the caboose (i haven’t looked at the sealed ones yet) are 3 sided with red or amber and one green side. I put the green to the side and red/amber on front and rear, and side facing caboose. The other pkged one’s my be prototypical but I just haven’t looked. Guess Bachmann didn’t get that right again unless others are right! Will follow up once I know. The Regal

Dave,

It is just my sadistic joke about absolute scales in an imperfect World. I like and use things that work together and I have nothing against anyone wanting to purchase stuff in just one scale. Jerry has purchased a great piece of equipment and I don’t want to interrupt the thread about his caboose any more than I have.

Jerry,

Have you figured out how to get inside? There was a write up in one of the magazines. I think Bachmann is giving the other companies a real run for their money.

Oh yeah Ric been inside put in the two batteries replaced the seat cover rolling around inside. You remove 4 teeny tiny screws and two hinge like dealies off of back of caboose then slide roof back, and off. Easy to get off it’s a b–ch to get the two little hinges that lock over the ladder and then the 4 miniscule screws back in. Lost the hinges several times and 1 screw but found everything and got back together. The marker lights just pop off and ya turn em around. Easy Peasey on that. Hah The Regal

But overall I am very impressed with the caboose, looks good behind my newly restored k.

Took a closer look in box just an extra set of marker lights and couplers all with 3 red or amber and one green one. Anyways its an excellent product I feel and I am very happy with it. I just put on my 4 LGB cars with a d&rg boxcar and the new caboose. Come on in to our “live show” tomorrow night Noel and I have some interesting things to show. 7-9pm MST Friday night on Regal’s channel.
