What did you use to glue down the tar paper strips?

Thanks for the comments - I use window frame sealant - in cartridge guns - where a trigger operated plunger pushes it out. Here in the UK it is used around the edges of PVC windows to fill the gap between the frame & the wall.
Its flexible, paintable and is said to last 15 years, and is quite cheap!
