New 3d printer anouncment

It took me a couple of minutes to find the specifications, but this new unit starting @ $699.00 uses the same build platform as my Form 4, but has a little more z axis by 3mm. it uses the same tech as the form 4 but with user friendly resins. it also utilizes Formlabs preform software for orientating and supporting the parts.

Al, do you think this printer will meet the needs for the average person who is not into mass production or do you believe this is a just stepping stone into resin 3d printing and the average person will ultimately need a larger sized unit?

Bill,

As i mentioned this uses the same build platform as my form 4 which is bigger than most current home units. it uses non toxic resins which will be a big boost to the home market. I know Bob had issues with his resin printer even using a mask to try and eliminate the fumes. this new printer is basically one tenth of the commercial unit in cost, with what appears to be the same results. in some ways i wish i had held onto the earlier printer (Form 2) longer.

I need to look into the non toxic resins and see what they have for VOCs.

Very interesting, Al. What are the “friendly” resin prints cleaned with?

I wonder how they compare with the “tough” series of resins, e.g., semiflexibility, impact resistence, able to be drilled and tapped.

The 2hr full volume build speed is unbelievable, wow… As is the price. You’re right, for a Form unit, a tenth of the price. Amazing.

Definitely work looking into. The Form products are more of a professional grade, a step above Anycubic & others. But with this kind of price point, it looks like Form wants to scoop the hobbiest market.

Cliff,

Sorry for the delay. i believe they are still using IPA, though there was an offering of solution from form labs that was supposed to last longer and be more environmentally friendly.
