Nevada trip photos

I finally got the pics from my 2008 Nevada/Mojave trip posted to my website:

http://www.raydunakin.com/Site/Nevada_Trip_2008.html

Most of the photo are of ghost towns and mines, many of which would make great models. There’s also some railroad stuff – pics of SPNG #18 on display in Independence, CA; an 0-4-0 mining loco on display in Randsburg, CA; a converted boxcar from the Eureka & Palisades RR; and tons of interesting stuff from the Nevada Northern Railway Museum in Ely, NV.

Enjoy!

Wow,
Fun trip. The photos are great. I will be modeling a mine, your pictures will be a great asset.
I’ve been to most of the lower 48 states, but have never made it to the left coast.

Ray,
Most interesting photos. Neat stuff! Thanks for sharing your trip.

I like the scrapbook layout, Ray - very easy to follow.

The link to the aerial photos didn’t work well. I clicked on the index link, then took a punt on which album to try. Guessed wrong!

Thanks, I’ll look into that.

Very interesting. If I could get out that way more often, I’d like to do the same thing. Thanx for the “picture” trip…

Great pictures. Thanks for posting.

Great pics Ray!

Oh, I forgot to mention something… While looking at the topo maps, I discovered that there is a mountain peak in Nevada named “Molly’s Nipples”!

Not to hijack a thread, but there is a meadow that my Scoutmaster used to take us to called Cathouse Flats, near Blewett Pass, WA.

There are literally hundreds of these kind of toponyms. Just Google either of those and youl probably find an article or two about it.

There’s a small ridge on Table Mountain, near Jacumba in eastern San Diego county, that’s called “Squaw Tit”. I’ve seen a couple others similarly named. And of course, the Grand Tetons of Wyoming are a classic example. Basically, it’s French for “big tits”.

I guess these trappers and prospectors spent so much time alone in the wilderness, it didn’t take much to remind them of the pleasures of home.

But “Molly’s Nipples” is the first one I’ve seen that mentioned the lady by name.

You sure that’s not my place?

No, . . that’s MY PLACE , . . in Palm Springs . . . . . . . . . . . . . after the complete renovation and upgrade ! Sorry, . . . I didn’t take an “before” pictures of it . . . .

The stuff I have on the website so far is just a fraction of the ghost town and mining camp pics I’ve taken over the years. I’d like to get them all online eventually, but most of them have never been scanned, and the first several years worth are on slides. But there’s some great stuff, including a lot of cool structures that don’t even exist anymore.
