Nevada 2011 -- Ghost towns, mines, trains, antique vehicles!

I just finished posting an account of my 2011 Nevada trip, plus pics and a couple videos: http://www.raydunakin.com/Site/Nevada_Trip_2011_Part_One.html I saw a lot of historic buildings and ruins, old mines, equipment, vehicles and other things that might be useful to modelers. Many of the vehicles and equipment are documented in detail on my Vintage Machinery page, including some old-fashioned gas pumps, a Chevy tanker truck, two different mine hoists, a Farmall tractor, and a mint-condition, 1923 Model T Ford: http://www.raydunakin.com/Site/Vintage_Machinery.html I visited the Nevada Northern Railway Museum too, and got plenty of photos of #40, a 4-6-0 built by Baldwin in 1910. There were a lot of thunderstorms this year, although they produced more rain than thunder and caused a lot of flooding. I even have video of a flash flood. Enjoy! PS – I didn’t see much wildlife on this trip, but here’s an interesting little critter I saw when I was taking a walk a few days ago:

Lordy he’s a beauty!

A blue tailed Skink.
His blue tail will break off if you grab it.
And re-grow back.
I used to have a bunch of 'em as pets when I was a kid.

Thanks for posting, Ray.
I enjoyed all the pics.
If you ever make it farther north, there’s a few spots in southern Idaho that would interest you.

Ray,

I just spent some while looking through your trip to NV pics. It made a rainy late morning enjoyable.

I found the views highly interesting, a variety of emotions ranging from awe to sadness occurring as I looked though the pics. We have some similar remains of mining here in SW England and I cannot forget the hard toil, loneliness and often despair that to be overcome by many of the miners - it was, indeed, a very hard life.

Glad there weren’t many reptiles. aaaargh!

Thinking of reptiles I guess they are a hazard to you in your treks but I imagine you are versed enough to recognize any danger points. The weather too, it seems, can be a risky affair but that, I guess, also applies to many parts of the States.
