Dave,
I think Dan said the prototype is covered by solar panels and he just used small real ones.

It was great to see Bob’s gorgeous coach (built by Bruce, Rooster, and himself), and Jon’s excellent “camper”.

Al’s Barnhart and car, and box car and flanger, are astounding. The closer you look, the more astounding it gets.

Danimal (funny thing, I didn’t recognize him at first with his regular head on) displayed his solar-powered laser track alignment car and new high-cube boxcer. (I’m sure I’m butchering their descriptions here).

Lou brought his awesome No. 2 car (I forget the official description?) and Bob also brought the hallowed LSC travelling crapper.

I brought my in-process ore car, and an older flanger.

A cool thing I’ve not seen at a train show before is the kid’s project area. I think it’s like $20 per kid per project, and all materials are supplied. I saw a couple adults at it as well!

Some videos… Starting with general train action on just one of the many layouts.

Something else you don’t see often,

One live steam layout was there.

Todd’s magnificent Schnabel got a lot of attention whie on the LSC table.

It especially drew a croud while running on the Big Green layout.

Finally, here’s a rambling overview of the whole thing.

What a fantastic idea for both kids and adults.

  • Affordable
  • Gives everyone a go
  • Provides a substantial building to put on the railroad.
  • Multiple options so family can come back with different buildings.
  • Plus, who wouldn’t then want a train set to go with their large scale building?

Any shots of finished products?

I didn’t get finished shots, should have. I saw one of these buildings finished though, and the job was to glue window & door castings on, and paint the whole thing.

The projects varied, I think they made cars and other items, not sure about the specifics. I’ll try to get more info tomorrow.

This was heavily sponsored by the vendors, and well staffed. Really cool thing to do.

The only unfortunate thing was not so great attendance… this kid’s program was geared up to handle lots of kids, not just 3 or 4 at a time. Hopefully tomorrow will be better for them and all the vendors.

I agree, Cliff. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

The kids who designed their own flat beds were able to have them run on the NHGRS layout. I was supposed to pull some of the cars, but it was assumed that my Toby has hook and loop couplers, which he does not. So, I tried to fix the issue, but couldn’t find the right loop in time. Regardless, the kids all seemed to have a great time!

Folks;

Thanks for all the photos and videos. It brought back fond memories of the “good old days” at the York Fair Grounds in York, PA. Sadly, I think my show going days may be over.

Best, David Meashey

I sort of hijacked Scott’s thread by posting a video, so I’ll keep the rest here. Not much, but a few things from yesterday at the show. Others have posted what is on LSC’s table. So, I shall stick with NHGRS.

I addition to the video I shared yesterday, I also have posted a few shorts on my YouTube page. Here’s my favorite so far. Yes, its all my Forney. Today I am going to focus on other members’ trains and post lots about them tonight/tomorrow.

Also, a couple pictures that I really like…
My little 3D printed rail bike doesn’t move yet. But, it looks pretty good sitting in Jeff Heath’s yard…

I love that I fixed the smokestack and it is operational again!

Finally, a beautiful bridge on Big Green. I’m going to have to take more photos of stock on this bridge today.

It was great to see all the cool builds at the drag and brag and I’m so pleased that my humble Schnabel was well received.
It was really cool to see it running laps on the NH clubs layout. Thanks to all that made it happen.

Todd, that thing is amazing! Can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

I am now home & the car is all unpacked. It was so great to finally meet some of the LSC regulars. Thanks to everyone who took the time to chat with me. I am still getting used to actually knowing people at these shows, so I was a bit overwhelmed. But, I had a great time overall!

More pictures & videos to come soon!
