Neighbors...I REALLY just need to vent

First things first, I admit, I’m an old country boy, always have been, always will be. In fact I used to say that if you could throw a rock in ANY direction and hit a neighbor they were too close…

In my old place (2nd floor apt) the goober downstairs would pound on the floor and complain about the noise if you walked around in your socks after 10pm. He’d also raise Cain if you DARED to play the TV loud enough to actually HEAR it… so they moved me.

The NEW neighbor is the exact opposite. When we were moving in (to the townhouse) he was nice and polite…for about a day and a half… now he blasts his stereo starting at 8AM (“It’s a surround sound system, it’s supposed to sound like that” and “I’ll play my music any way I please”–except the way he said it wasn’t quite that polite) ten days or so ago he screamed at my friend Kim and the cable guy for DARING to walk on the grass in front of MY unit.-- They claim it’s THEIR yard…we can’t walk on it, because it will hurt the grass, but they can toss ciggy butts in it…

Today they (he and his wife) had a screaming fit because I parked in THEIR parking space – Except in the two years I’ve been in this stupid plan it’s the first I’ve heard ANYTHING about assigned spaces…And after I cheerfully ignored them, their kids leaned their bikes up against my screen door so we couldn’t get out without asking them to move them…

Now, I really do try to get along with people, even ones I don’t like… I even thought about moving the van, but I don’t like being pushed around and I won’t be bullied. – I had enough of that shtuff in junior high school. Tomorrow I go to the landlord’s secretary. If she can’t do anything I may look into getting a restraining order.

Mik that sucks.

Unfortunately, some folks never grow out of a junior high mentality. A lot of this seems to be a suburban mentality. I split my up bringing between NYC and rural NJ and PA. Most folks got along despite their differences. It wasn’t until I lived in the burbs that tempers seem to flare. I’ll never live in a townhouse or a community with a HOA again.

Been there - you have my heartfelt sympathy.

Don’t lose your cool, and don’t take a backwards step.

Just be careful of the “Old Age Syndrome”, when people get to old to fight the only option is to shoot you. Weapons should be kept clean and lightly oiled, ammunition kept in a seperate, but immediately available location.

Some people are just a-holes, period, and sometimes they live next to you…sorry dude.

We have a bunch of self-absorbed college kids living across the street from us who dont think twice about having parties that begin at 12 midnight, you’d think after the last 3 resulted in police breaking up the party for noise complaints they’d have gotten the message…nope, but the last one the police physically threw everyone out, and we think informed (or fined) the owner becuase a “For Sale” sign went up shortly thereafter.
