Neighborhood rattlesnake

When we came home from church today, we saw two of our neighbors standing out on the sidewalk, next to their trash can which was at the curb. They told us they had found a rattlesnake under the trash can and were waiting for someone from Animal Control to come and get it. I got out my camera and shot a few pics.

Pretty soon the snake came out into the open and tried to go into another neighbor’s front yard. At this point I had Cris bring me a broom and a large bucket. I carefully used to broom to herd the snake into the bucket, for safe keeping. It was a Pacific diamondback, about 3 feet long. A couple minutes later the AC person arrived to pick up the snake. They said it would be taken to a remote area for release into the wild.

I have some pics here:

Oh boy!!! You’re just lucky that neighbor found him when they did and someone didn’t get bit. Can you imagine sticking your hand inside a tunnel and getting bit. That thing would have been mince meat not relocated.

Yeah, I’m glad no one got bit, especially any of the neighborhood kids. Or even someone’s dog. And I’m glad the snake could be safely relocated too.

Yep. it’s snake season. I’ve been working carefully. A couple of people have already been bitten up here on the desert.

This is why I’m SOoooo glad I moved to Northern Idaho, NO poisoness snakes. I had enough of rattlers when I spent alot of time in the desert and mountains in So. Cal.

Chuck

No rattlers in N Idaho?

Has St Paddy been there recently?

I thort they was everywhere.

I don’t know about N. Idaho but there are rattlers in Montana. My brother and I almost stepped on one a few years ago, while hiking across the prairie.

Don’t like snakes. I don’t like live ones, dead ones or even sticks that look like them.

Guess I shouldn't tell you then that PA Rattlers like to nest in the old rotted ties of the EBT :o

I’m well aware and notice I’m not there much during season.

Steve: We do not have them kind on the west side of Washington! That is nice, but I have had a few incounters in my life time. One in Arizona (Tucson), it was crossing the highway when a car came along it coiled in less than a blink of the eye! While they do keep the rodent population down and they will stay away but they do act baddly when supprised! As Doug says keep a sharp eye out while working out side.

Ray, if you had stamped your foot while he was moving you would have seen the quick coil!

Paul

Well, we have them in Eastern Washington, and if they are in Montana but not North Idaho, I guess St Paddy did visit Idaho. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yep. But I didn't want him getting agitated.

My brother as a Nevada Power lineman tramping thru the Nevada desert learned to watch for them cooling off by hanging out in the sage brush about crotch high.

Yikes. That could lead to some _really_ unpleasant bites.
